I loved the trailer for Season 2, and figure S2 needs it's own thread. Some pre-season spoilers are probably inevitable, so be careful posting and reading. :)

    Anson Mount as Captain Pike.

Among other things, Mount was the star of Hell on Wheels on AMC from 2011 to 2016.

Oh, I didn't recognize him without a beard. I watched Hell on Wheels religiously. At first I thought, well that doesn't look like Potsie from Happy Days, and besides, he's not old enough.

Looks very interesting. All the Trek tech looks way beyond anything TOS. (I’ll live with it).

If you had told me at 16, there would still be a Star Trek presence over 50 years later, I would have been shocked. And quite pleased.

Anson Mount very much resembles and sounds similar to a young Bruce Greenwood. Don’t know if that was the plan. (Probably not. I can’t imagine any kind of crossover).

Interesting that they haven’t revealed gnuSpock yet. Comic-Com is the usual venue for that type of thing. Will they wait for the premiere?

I have to say, I see more potential here than with the fall 2019 beginning of Picard’s Brave New World.

As I've said before, I prefer it that way...since our tech today looks way beyond anything TOS. The way I look at it is, when they made TOS they simply didn't have the tech to properly portray the tech of the future, and now they're doing a better (but no doubt still wholly inadequate) job of it.

Same thing with Klingons. We've just gotten better over the past half-century at showing what they really look like. ;)

Yes, I’ll agree to all of that. I’m certainly happy to have television tech that will reproduce the current production standards, but also make the original show look better than it ever has before. I never even got to see Trek in color until it was in its second run.

But, when I first saw the remastered film on tape, I was floored at how good the original photography looked.

I also embrace the new Klingons. And why not? The budgets are so much bigger today. I remember reading in a making of book that the prop master on TOS had a total of $631 to make a particular gadget for an episode.

I’ll just be happy when the new Klings get new mouth prostheses that allow them to enunciate better.

    :)

I agree with RGM1138 that Anson Mount has a very "Bruce Greenwood" vibe to him--and I really enjoyed Greenwood as Pike in the JJVerse. Rebecca Romijn as Number One will be very interesting...I have to admit I keep thinking about her shape shifting on the bridge because Mystique is the only role I know her from. :)

I do worry that, based on the trailer, this is going to be a season of "The Search for Spock". Unfortunately, they won't be able to get the payoff--going through a season of them looking for Spock, only to have some new random actor wearing the ears, will feel a little flat.

Did they rule out bringing in Quinto? Seems like a good option.

I suppose it could happen...but I'd worry about the "universe" confusion that would cause.

True, but that seems something that they could deal with/anticipate.

To me, that would bring some amount of satisfaction. Since he’s a known quantity. Sadly, there’s no way we’ll have Nimoy as Spock again, and Quinto is as close as we’ll get.

Unless they can come up with someone else who we could buy as Spock from first glance, pretty much everyone else will be a let down.

    Uhm, no.
They should just admit that this isn't the Prime Universe.

Because he said ocean instead of lake? Seems like a simple mistake when recalling it from possibly a long time ago.

Yeah, no offense but that seems like nerdy nitpicking to me.
