I’m failing to see what SDV has to do with anything. If Choice doesn’t have the channels you want, you’ll have to get a different package. The fact that some SDV channels aren’t offered in the Choice package is just coincidence.

I think my message got sidetracked. My original intent was only in reference to the thread subject about the use of a TA with Spectrum Choice. For me, that is a non-issue as no SDV channels are offered through Choice.

Wayover- I’ve been running my Bolt with antenna but now have Spectrum Choice. I’d like to use the Bolt with SC. Please forgive the newbie question, but would my first step be to call Spectrum and request a cable card? Apologies, but can’t find this on the forum. Thank you.

Yes. The cable card would be step 1. Then, if you're missing any channels and SDV is used in your area, you'll need a tuning adapter. We have many threads around here regarding that particular circle of he**.

    Good luck!

When you request the CC, ask for a TA. Ideally the agent will know whether you need the TA. Even if you don't need it, but they provide it anyway, there is no charge for the TA and you can just return it. Unfortunately there's a good probability the agent won't know whether you need it.

Also I would be interested in what your total monthly bill with Choice (and internet -- I assume you have that also) is. Not an advertised rate but what actually is the bottom line of your invoice. And do you know if you are getting a promotional deal?

dlfl - Thank you. My monthly rate is $108. That is $75 for Internet (I’ve had that for a few years and it’s crept up.) The remainder is Spectrum Choice, Taxes, etc. Just confirmed that’s confirmed for two years. Crazy, but he couldn’t give me the charge for the CC and TA service. I need to go to the local office to pick them up, and then they can tell me.

I just left DirecTV and went fully with Spectrum as they are my Internet provider. I have two CableCards @ $2.00 each. They break each card down to $1.00 for Rental and $1.00 for Secure Connection. Use Tuning Adapters also in the NC Triad Area.

i was just told by Tivo Chat support that I cannot set up my Bolt with Spectrum Choice because you cannot install apps on Tivo. So let me be more specific with you guys, as that doesn’t sound right to me. I have a Tivo Bolt currently connected to an antenna. I also just engaged the Spectrum Choice Service which I think works great. This is the Spectrum live streaming over internet. I do not have cable. I just picked up a cable card and tuning adapter from Spectrum. Can anyone direct me to a web page that can show me how to set up the hardware so that I can watch and record Spectrum Choice through the Internet on my Bolt? Or, let me know that what I’m intending is not possible. Honestly sorry, I just can’t find that basic info here. Thank you.

I went to the local Spectrum office for my M cable cards. If their office is too far away calling them and having the CC mailed is an option. Setup was straight forward and easy to do. You will need to give Spectrum a call to finish the activation on their end. The number to call will be on screen when you get to that part of the set up.

Regardless of whether you need the Tuning Resolver/Adapter today, you may need it tomorrow (Charter does move channels around(*)), so while setting up and using the Tuning Resolver/Adapter can be a PITA, doing it initially may make sense (and that way you get to enjoy the pain of CableCARD and Tuning Resolver/Adapter setup all at once (like ripping off the bandaid, it will be over (sometimes setting them up is trivial, and sometimes it is less so, but there is no way to know until after the experience)). The only channels that will (almost never) be moved to SDV are those channels available to customers using the (legacy) DTA in your market (if DTAs were/are available in that market), as the DTAs can't do SDV, so those channels are pinned as never being SDV.

(*) Not often, but my experience has been that you need to call about a missing channel, even if it has nothing to do with the channel being SDV'ed, their support will insist you install a Tuning Resolver/Adapter before proceeding further (it is in their scripts that missing channels are due to lack of a Tuning Resolver/Adapter).

I think they are referring to the Spectrum App only, which Tivo does not support. You don't need the app for the Choice Program as your Bolt will pick up all stations you are authorized for. They also have a Spectrum Stream package that you would need the App for and may be confusing the two. I also have Roku's that do support the Spectrum App and I use it for an upstairs bedroom guest room. This App will also allow access with your portable devices when out of your home network.

Gary, Not all Spectrum areas use tuning adapters and there is a lot of confusion within the Spectrum organization in regard to TA's. The TA can't be set up as it's not recognize by the system I'm on. The one that was sent to me is sitting in a drawer. I didn't send it back as I'm not being charged for it at this time and will be good to go if the system is changed.

Prompted by Spectrum just increasing my bill by $11/mo I checked into Spectrum Choice. It's $35/mo plus $13.50/mo, which is the Broadcast TV Surcharge for my area (!!!) plus $5 taxes & fees, plus $2 for CableCARD, for a grand total more than $55/mo. And two channels I really want (Smithsonian and Fox Sports Ohio) are not available for the 10 selected channels.

Then there is YouTube TV for $50/mo with no additional taxes/fees. It has all the channels I want, including locals, and an unlimited cloud DVR. I have Fire TV to get it. I've already spent an hour talking to Spectrum and they won't give me any relief on the $11 increase. If they don't cave in big time when I actually order them to cut cable, I will go the YouTube TV route.

They're going to have to do a lot better than Spectrum Choice if that's supposed to be their way to keep people from cutting the cord.

EDIT: Correction, YouTube TV does charge my state sales tax.
