It does matter, and is a valid point.

I made no judgement, and you're being silly.

No, I don't "see now" because you've tried to sidestep the simple question asked.

ARE THOSE GIRLS OF ARAB OR AFRICAN ANCESTRY? ARE THEY MUSLIM?

    Answer me.

While the actress wasn't blonde, the whole take was of a "blonde haired blue eyed American girl joining ISIS", which seemed a stretch. I looked at her dad, and saw nothing to indicate Arab (let alone African) ancestry.

    The question still stands.

Why would such a girl want to join ISIS? What connection would there be? This is what struck me as the joke commercial played, and so it struck me as "this makes no sense" rather than "it's tasteless".

Because that is EXACTLY what was happening in real life. White Anglo-Saxon girls joining ISIS, thinking they could make a difference -- and getting beheaded in the process.

That is what the sketch is about.

It's funny because it points out how ridiculous it is that ISIS would actually be 'recruiting' normal american young girl recruits. There is almost certainly way more to the story of the girls who supposedly went over to fight with ISIS (as if these sharia law Muslims would have young women on the front line - they don't even allow women to show their face or drive a car...)

    Dude, why the harsh tone?

This is a thread about people's opinion on a comedy sketch.

To me it was a mashup of the ISIS girls and the Toyota commercial here:

Its the juxtaposition that makes it funny for me. The fact that the people in the SNL parody are white make it really funny. If they were middle eastern, it would just be sad.

I heard about the controversy before seeing the sketch. After getting around to watching SNL yesterday afternoon, all I have to say is that people get offended by the dumbest things. That's not even in the Top 20 of the most offensive SNL sketches.

That's something I hate about social media. Who thinks it was controversial? Nobodies on Twitter who were complaining about it.

Why do we care what they think?

The shame of it all is that the surprise is a big part of the joke. When the video is titled "SNL ISIS Skit", it sort of ruins the punchline. It's a shame.

You know what I do find offensive? That ABC News blurred out the ISIS logo on the van and the flag, like it was a 1990s Dr. Dre video.

But ISIS is only the JV team.

Shouldn't she have joined a better organization of religiously challenged searchers of justice?

I thought it was pretty funny. It made fun of the seemingly none White girl joining ISIS and the fact that Toyota trucks seem to be the popular mode of transportation of ISIS. The only thing that would have made it funnier is if they had put the name of the plumbing company that was in the news. Seems a truck that a plumbing company in the states owned is now being used as a ISIS truck.
