I thought it was a fairly decent episode, redeemed by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Biden's just not that funny of a topic (unless he's got a specific gaff to make fun of). And please retire the Today Show bit and Gilly.

Junk-mail was funny, as was Angie Tempura

No digital short this week? They're often the best part.

Gilly is just so bizzare, I like it.

The yeah yeah yeahs remind me of Blondie.

I thought the host did a terrible job. He never once sold me on the character he was playing (not even during the HSM bit).

I couldn't stand the musical guest. I say "No, no, no".

So who actually plays Gilly? Is that Kristen Wiig? Has she invented yet another character whose very presence sets my teeth on edge?

The Today Show skits are so bad they make me want to delete my season pass. Overall I didn't really care for the episode, but there were a few good parts.

Angie Tempura is hands down the funniest new character introduced on SNL in many years!

The Angie Tempura bit had me laughing so hard it hurt! When she saw Zac Efron and spit and spilled her iced coffee it was perfect. The timing, the facial expression, the strangled "I love you!", all of that in combination was absolutely perfectly delivered!

I had to watch that bit over and over! It was funny every time!

Maybe it's just because Hoda Kotb was a very popular local Anchor here in New Orleans for several years, and Michaela Watkins does her very well, but I like the "Today Show" segments.

However... I totally agree that Gilly's got to go! Not funny at all.

Good episode overall though, with Angie Tempura the highlight and Gilly the low...

Both Gilly and Angie Tempura are repeat characters. Each time in the Gilly sketch, it's the Fat guy as a nerd, Kenan with both arms broken, the host, and Gilly. It's so bizarre, it's brilliant.

And I think this is Angie Tempura's second or third appearance.

    Biiiiitch, please!

With respect to Angie Tempura, I did mean "new" as in "recent addition" to their stable of characters.

I found her really funny the first time, and absolutely take-your-breath-away funny this time!

    Oh, and um, FYP:

angie tempura might be funny if she weren't actually just ripping off Gilda Radner doing Lisa Loobner.

And while I love them, unfortunately, the YYY just don't translate to TV shows. It was also very strange to perform a 6yo song for their second number when they have a new record out. Granted, it was their biggest 'hit' ("Maps"), but still.

I adore Angie Tempura, but I had the same Lisa Loopner thought when I was watching too, tem.

One of the things I have always liked about SNL is they are willing to take chances and give exposure to new and different musical acts. That being said, musical appreciation is such a subjective thing and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are not going to be in my iPod anytime soon.
And that's great that you enjoyed them.
Really...Blondie? Debbie Harry could sing and stay on melody...this girl, not so much.
Agree...I just fast forwarded through and hope I don't have to hear them again.

Oh, the show was okay...very forgettable.

One thing I've never done is judged a musical guest by their appearance on SNL. For some reason, the sound mix is never what it should be; I've seen this be the case time and time again.

Check out a few Yeah Yeah Yeahs music videos. I'm not suggesting your opinion would necessarily change, but it'll give you a better representation of their sound.

Yeah, that struck me as odd. Unless Lorne or the band themselves didn't want to perform a second single.

They performed "Date With The Night" on Letterman a few years back. The sound mix was pretty good. And again, it seems like the Ed Sullivan Theater has a better sound setup than Studio 8H at 30 Rock, for many musical guests have appeared on SNL, sounded like crap, then appeared on Letterman a few nights later, and sounded much, much better.

While I was watching, I thought to myself, "There will be some TCFers who aren't very thrilled right now." :D

And that, is where the similarity ends.

Other than the voice, Angie Tempura and Lisa Loopner could not possibly be more different!

To make the statement, "character A is a ripoff of character B", based on their voices being similar is an insanely shallow interpretation of the character.

I stand by my opinion that Angie Tempura is the funniest SNL character to come along in awhile.

Actually, I really like the character of Lisa Loopner too, but again, there's hardly any similarity to these characters other than the voice.
