Regina King I know from a great sitcom from the 1980s called "227" which starred Marla Gibbs.

I have seen her name a lot on awards shows and i have seen a couple of movies she appeared in, though not the great movies, yet.

She's quite a good actress, even here. I say that because she seems to mostly do more sophisticated material.

I never heard of Nathaniel Rateliff and the first time he sang, I didn't like the way his voice sounded or the instruments so I skipped over him. The second time I decided to give him a second chance, partly because my affiliate messed up and joined him in progress. The music was actually good!

As usual, I thought Weekend Update was the best part. And Colin's hair wasn't messed up this week. The Cold Open was a close second.

When Aidy was getting all those signs as presents, I thought the problem was that those signs just weren't funny any more.

Something must have gotten left out because they just showed the band during the final commercial break when I thought maybe they were going back to the show, but there wasn't time to really do anything.

The Gorilla Glue Law Firm commercial was hilarious-her hair!

And at the end when Chris Redd had his hands down his pants and she told him to take them out and he said, "I can't! Gorilla Glue!" BA HA HA!

I've long been a fan-not just because we share a name, but because she's incredible-when she won the Oscar for "If Beale Street Could Talk" I was over the moon! She did a great job and I was so excited for her!

During her opening monologue when she was saying where white people would know her from, I thought for sure she would say Big Bang Theory.

I really like the Pelotaunt, funniest thing I've seen them do in a while. The Gorilla Glue bit was a close second.

I was a big Regina King fan from when she played a detective on Southland (still cursing Jay Leno and his five night a week prime-time shows that basically pushed Southland off of NBC over to TNT) and also from the Netflix series Seven Seconds. I agree it was a little weird to see her on SNL since I think of her as a more sophisticated dramatic actress, but I thought she was great!

Shouldn’t you curse NBC? They are the ones that gave him the time slot because they were afraid he would go to another channel and beat them in the ratings.

I had to chuckle when I read this. It's like saying "John Travolta I know from 'Welcome Back Kotter'".

As kewpie says, she was great in Southland, an under-rated show. And in the last couple years, she's been prolific. Watchmen comes to mind. She also directed and Exec-Produced "One Night in Miami", an amazing movie (Netflix?).

There were some funny skits but I mostly watch SNL for Weekend Update. Unfortunately, the skits that they run during that segment are never funny to me.

Meh episode. I thought Regina was fine and the opening monologue was good. WU wasn't just OK. I likes the second song the musical guest did, not the first.

    My example is Peter Berg.

I realize everyone *now* knows him as a big time writer/director. But *I* will always know him as "'the young doctor' on 'Chicago Hope'". (Basically the young guy getting all the women, in contrast with Adam Arkin & Mandy Patinkin's older characters..)

Just like there's probably some 90+ year old that thinks of Clint Eastwood as "that nice young man from 'Rawhide'".

How is it that Regina King never seems to age?

Oh, she's definitely older than when I first met her.

Now Marla Gibbs and Jackee on the other hand ...

Hopping a bit to the new episode upcoming. I must be getting old or out of touch, but I have never heard of either the Host or the Musical Guest
