Can't tell you, no longer an owner... Given Sling's overreach in light of all the over-the-top offerings, passable Stream/Roamio streaming, nice Stream/Roamio offloading, I flipped the last two Slingboxes I had. I feel like the ad played before getting to my content, but can't be sure and can no longer replicate. Like you, I also don't know where it will end -- I found their PR firm very offputting on the matter and don't trust any of it.

Luckily with my Slingbox Pro, I can still use version 2 of their PC player and no ads are on that.

At one time I was ready to buy a 2nd slingbox but saw the ads after I "upgraded" the pc player. They were so obnoxious in instituting these ads that I dropped that 2nd slingbox idea real quick.

My guess is their company is on its last legs financially and the ads were a hail Mary to try and get some extra cash. The problem with that is, they have now p*ssed off not only potential new customer but also their dedicated user base who now won't bother upgrading in the future.

The ads don't really bother me. Plus there are no ads on the phone/tablet apps.

We're talking about pre-roll ads. That means ads that play in the video window before the video starts. They may not be in the mobile apps now, but you can bet they will be there eventually.
