I have a 3TB Bolt+ VOX, and a TiVoSlide Pro Remote - the box is too far from my living room for RF to work, so I’m using an IR distribution solution. What do i need in order to make the keyboard work? see less

This really should be moved/posted in the Help or Bolt forums. I don't believe the keyboard will work in IR mode? How far are you between the living room and Bolt as ours works at roughly 50 feet through a couple of walls in RF mode?

About 30’ but it’s an old house remodeled and walls are thick. Had to go with a commercial solution for good WiFi. I *can* extend the USB port from my Bolt+ closer to the living room if the keyboard will work on a usb dongle from it....?

I think that I just saw another post with someone doing the same thing (ie getting the RF USB dongle for the Slide Pro Remote and a USB extension).

But some say that the dongle doesn’t work at all on the Bolt+ ??

Curious as to what the keyboard can do that the voice control can't

The slide pro doesn't have voice... I had to go with it b/c the vox remote didn't work with my Bose V35 and I had to have a learning remote.

It actually wasn’t hashed out... not really clear to me anyway. Maybe I’m missing something. Maybe I can call weaknees support to get a solution.

The only remaining question is does the remote dongle work on the Bolt. Some say yes, others say no. Without a definitive answer, probably worth the risk to just buy a dongle and try it. Whenever I have a problem like this that can be solved by risking $15 versus analyzing and researching for hours on end, I consider my time more valuable than that and spend the money.

In any case, the dongle is really your only option for making the remote keyboard work. If it works, problem solved. If it doesn't, then there is no solution besides physically moving the Bolt closer to where your remote is going to be used.

Using your phone's keyboard is another solution, but you have already dismissed that because it's too small. However, a bigger phone/tablet would solve that. You can get a cheap 7" tablet for $40. If you collect gadgets like I do, you may already have a few tablets lying around.
