I'm getting a slight skipping (1 second or so) on playback. It happens every couple minutes or so. This is a new problem that I haven't seen before. Does this mean my hard drive is smoked, yet again???

Possibly. Put the tivo (and any other computer) on a UPS to extend hard drive life.

That is one sign of a failing hard drive..... you can try and reboot the unit to see if it goes away.

FYI - this is not an uncommon problem, but I don't think anyone is sure about the cause or the solution. Check out this thread:

I personally do not believe this has anything to do with a bad hard drive. I won't waste time going into details again about why I believe that, but for what it's worth, computers are my job. Good luck!
