Growing up in the 1970's, I was a HUGE fan of The Six Million Dollar Man. I've often thought with all of the movie remakes; why hasn't Hollywood ever made Steve Austin come alive on the big screen. Obviously, I think they would need to change the title to the Six Billion Dollar Man to keep up with inflation.

Am I the only SMDM fan out here? Has anyone else ever thought about this?

Why? I'd be more afraid of a lousy remake (Jim Carrey as $6 Million Man, for example)

If Hollywood did decide to make the movie, who would you cast as Steve Austin?

Jim Carrey? Yes, I was hoping for a serious remake. Your story is from 3 years ago; any idea when the movie will be released?

Luckily, Jim Carrey backed out of the remake. From what I understand it's been shelved. I say GOOD! It *definitely* needs to be remade and if they did it right it could be a huge hit! Having Jim Carrey in it and doing it as a comedy would NOT have been right!!!

On a related subject, there was also talk a few years ago of bringing back "The Bionic Woman" to USA Network as a series (by "Team Todd") and that never came to fruition either. If done right that could have been another HIT!!! Bionic Woman on USA?

Come on Hollywood, what's with the cold feet when it comes to Bionics?!?!?!?

I couldn't find anything recent about the remake but I didn't see anything about it being shelved either. I am glad to hear they decided not to do it.

The six million dollar man was based on a great sci-fi novel called "Cyborg" by Martin Caidin himself a true tech icon.

I often watched the show but cringed everytime at how bad an actor Lee Majors was.

I think with the Six Million Dollar Man, they could do a great job if they went the way of The Fugitive. Cast a big-name star and a great script, do it RIGHT.

So who would make a good Steve Austin?

I'm just hoping that one day, Sandra Bullock will reprise her Bionic Showdown performance as the Bionic Babe.

... and why isn't anything Bionic out on DVD yet?

Both Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman are available on DVD in the UK and have been for quite some time.

If your DVD player can play Region 2 DVD's you're in luck!

Here's season 1 of SMDM, released in September of 2005.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000ANDBTY/026-4788988-9234838?v=glance&n=283926

And Bionic Woman Season 1 released in 09/05 as well:

This SMDM release even shows a release date of 2001:

And the Bionic Woman from around the same time:

This was my favorite show growing up! I was even in the SMDM fan club. :)
Please no remakes. Hollywood would only screw it up. Thankfully that Jim Carey plan tanked.

Last I heard (and this was a few years ago), Lee Majors sued Universal for improper royalty payments and that was the reason for the delay. I wish I could post where I read that but I can't seem to find it.

Also a few years ago, there were even previews of the Bionic Woman DVDs coming soon, I think it was on the 'Back to the Future' DVD set. Perhaps Majors' lawsuit is affecting that release as well since Bionic Woman was a spin-off and he appears some early episodes.

I had a brown courduroy suit as a kid in the 70's that was very Steve Austin. I sometimes pretended I was him in it.

I agree about the price. These days, 6 million would barely buy a bionic finger. :D

I'm sure with inflation it would be the Six Billion Dollar Man.... That would be about right....

On the other hand, with Moore's Law and all that, maybe for $6M, you can get better, faster parts now!

Anything higher is probably just for the rising malpractice insurance...

    :D
