    Older shows:

    Deadwood
    Friends
    Cheers
    The Sopranos
    St. Elsewhere

New shows...Can't think of any that have been around long enough to impress me consistently. The impressive shows I watch have only been around for a couple of seasons at the most, so the jury is still out in my mind. Shows with potential to impress me long term:

    Modern Family
The Middle (most underrated show on TV in my opinion)
    Raising Hope
    Boardwalk Empire
    Game of Thrones

I personally think Dexter has been on a slow decline. I still love the show but I no longer push it at all my friends like I do Breaking Bad or Justified. Would love to have added Sons of Anarchy to that list but they almost entirely lost me last season. To the point that they are on very thin ice with my loyalty this season. The first two were up there with Breaking Bad and Justified for me. Dexter season 1 was as well. Oh well. :(

Vampire Diaries is like a wolf in sheep's clothing for me: it presents itself as teen drama treacle, but it is actually fast-paced, well-acted, mythologically complex, and consistently pretty great. You'll get no fight from me.

Here's a new one I'm pleasantly surprised at: Against the Wall on lifetime. I don't think we've ever had a thread on it here.

I sometimes see reruns that continue to remind me of what a great show that was. Just so much smarter than the general crop of sitcoms.
