The current $680 deal for a new series3 from this forum's store is hard to beat - especially with free shipping and no tax. Keep an eye out on eBay for even a better deal.

Is this price an auction price on Ebay or a Buy Now price?

It means the street price of these is coming down. Obviously the forum store has figured out folks are willing to buy at $680 but reluctant any higher. Same with eBay. A week ago the best price was $699 + shipping. As more and more sellers get into the game the price is slipping.

Yeah, at first I (also) thought funtoupgrade was about to pull of a scam ... but then I re-read the username before ultimately interpreting it the way he explained it :)

    Gist: Prices will drop.

    Response: Duh!

I saw the name too and that is what confused me even more. It would be different if a newb came in and posted that but here was have a known member, so I was like is it spam and funtoupgrade had a lapse of judgement or is there an explination for the comment.

Looking around on Ebay, I also see someone selling their Lifetime transfer for $399. That is an interesting idea, especially since they would still get service on the old box for 1 year after selling the transfer.

The person buying the lifetime can transfer the free subscription to another unit.

Wrong! I am an upgrader not a reseller of stock units. Since I buy all my units on eBay I watch it very carefully and am simply noting trends I see. Bought one this morning for $610. I think these puppies will be under $600 in the not so distant future.

Though unfortutely, the moderators here likely won't allow this thread to keep updating. I sure would like to find out better deals that others find. (Wow, if we're getting in the low $600s, then the price with the lifetime transfer is close to the original MSRP!)

Why not? The moderators are not closing down threads just because they offer a deal better then what their store can offer. They do shut down threads that are spam, which is the thread they shut down that started this hullabaloo (sp?)

Despite the official policy, they have been relatively hands off in pricing discussions and continue to be so. As Einselen said, threads that were shut down appear to be by vendors posing as civilians and promoting their own deals.

I wonder if there's a S3 rebate around the corner in time for holiday shopping... Since TiVo doesn't divulge specific sales info, we have no idea what their objective is and how sales are going. If there is to be a holiday rebate or price reduction, I assume it would show up by Thanksgiving.

Current S2 rebate runs to 12/31 so I doubt there'll be an S3 rebate this year.

I think the new pricing plans and so forth are partly to negate the need for rebates in favor of TiVo bundle deals. Seems like TC store is the beneficiary of providing a lower bring your own hardware cost without rebate. TiVo may well be getting out of the in-store business vs continuing the rebate scam err I mean scheme around the Brick and Mortar distribution channel.
