DRM should not be an issue for OTA ATSC, a court ruling prevents its enforcment. There is no encryption involved so it should not break anything even if it was enabled.

It is not just PBS stations. I have this problem with the OTA ABC digital channel here in Roanoke, VA, since the TiVo firmware update in Feb or March. The 13.1 digital HD channel is now just a gray screen. Signal strength is 90+. I called TiVo customer support and was told to unplug power from the unit, wait about a minute, and then replug. When I told the the rep I had already tried this, he hung up. I immediately called back and got a different rep who took my complaint, put me on hold to talk with a supervisor, and then gave me a service complaint number. She told me a TiVo engineer/tech person would be contacting me in a couple of days to discuss the specifics. No such call was ever received and my followup has been a waste of time. I told this rep that the ABC digital station went blank after the firmware upgrade and suggested that this might be a software related problem. She said she had nothing in her materials that this had been a reported problem after the update. As a result, I have no HD recordings of LOST, which has been a bummer as this is one of the reasons I bought the TiVo 3.

I hate to disappoint you, but no, it doesn't go away with ver. 8-3.

To update my earlier post, I have not be able to get in touch with the engineer at WLAE. I dropped him an email 2 weeks ago. And I left him a voice mail last wednesday. No response. The good news is that this is a secondary PBS station that isn't transmitting HD at the present time. I'd just like to get this resolved before they start. I would like to hear from anyone else in the New Orleans market area as to whether, or not, they are having this problem.

I am having a similar problem in RI. The OTA NBC HD channel 10.1 only displays a grey screen on the S3. The same channel comes in fine using the same antenna on the TV. This has only been since I received 8.3.

Has anyone received any updated info from TIVO on this problem?

Tivo told me to stop calling. That was _my_ update, a few days ago.

Tivo says there is an engineer working with my local Cable Company (what they have to do with an OTA problem is a mystery to me) and I will hear from someone when they're ready to tell me anything. I was basically told to shut the hell up because the engineer knows what he is doing and I am just confusing the issue by my repeated calls (3 since late March, the two follow-ups because Tivo promised a quick callback that never happened).

So, what is the status of a 6 month old Tivo series 3 bought early at top dollar that doesn't work? In December when I was having constant reboot problems and in March when this problem suddenly started they mentioned swapping out the receiver, but I have a feeling too much time has passed now. I guess I'm stuck with it, and will try to get what I can for it on eBay, though I will certainly have to mention in my ad that it doesn't work right, so I'm not optimistic.

I received a call from TIVO today, in fact they left several messages for me the past few days. They really wanted to talk to me. The basic gist of the call was that they wanted to know what exact version I had on the original hard drive. They also wanted me to put in the original hard drive back in and try a few things to narrow the problem down for the engineers.

They had no problem with me upgrading my hard drive. In fact, they wanted to know if I had 8.1 saved on a different hard drive to try out that version too. I wish I did. Anyway, I have their direct number and will be calling them tomorrow with my findings. So it looks like we may be on our way to finally getting a resolution from TIVO.

I am delighted to report that with the download of Version 9.1 software, the above problem seems to be solved. Following the 9.1 update, when I do a channel scan, my S3 now detects and tunes WVPT channels 51.1, 51.2, and 51.3.

Much appreciation to BSchneider for his persistence in pursuing this problem and to TIVO programmers for fixing the software bug!

    SingerDoc,

It took some time but yes they finally fix the problem with this release. Without the original hard drive, I really don't think it would have been resolved.

I am in the Chicago area and I am having and issue with the Tivo HD I just purchased yesterday. I am missing channels 38.1 - 38.4. I called Tivo and they told me to take the unit I purchased back to to the store and get another unit. That did not work either.

When I do a diagnostic I get 100% signal strength but the screen is just blank. The Tivo engineer tried to tell me that it was an antenna issue. That is hard to believe because my Series 3 Tivo is getting those channels just fine.

So I am at a loss as to what to do next.

This is something the station does wrong, adding some parameter that the Tivo finds invalid, and it is invalid. It may be a zero somewhere that has to have a range 1-50 for instance. Here I had channel 49 do same thing, grey screen on all 4 subchannels. It was low watched ION station so no big deal, suddenly one day it worked fine. Notice that no good network station ever has this, only stuff no one views much.

That is funny you said that about ION because that is what the channel is. I never watch it but I thought there was something wrong with the TIVO box.

I had problems with one of my S3's when I first got it. It was FOX news. It would stutter. If I backed up, and watched 30 seconds behind, it was fine. I had a second S3 which was not affected, but it had cableCARDs. So, I got a new S3 from TiVo. Same thing. Then one day, after I gave up worrying about it, it was fixed.

You could try contacting the station directly, some of the engineers will try and work with you. I'd try emailing first.
