We aren't talking about half the screen being used up here. There is plenty of room in the upper right corner for a small video display and it wouldn't disturb anything. I do like the idea of translucent menus though. Kind of like BluRay and HD-DVD use... very effective.

EDIT: Added a picture of the TVGOS screen to get an idea of the size of the video window I am referring to.

    Thank you!
the shot of the TVGOS screen is the best sales pitch to buy Tivo and use their interface, it's everything I hate in a GUI Guide!

If I had to choose video preview over the std Tivo Guide, TG wins every time. TVGOS is a minus.

Amen - even without the advertisement, that looks awful.

You get the TV in the background if you're using the guide, and if I'm working something in the menu, whatever show I'm watching can wait the seconds needed to do it.

How about this for a feature that seems like it would be pretty easy to add, and there probably wouldn't be (m)any objections: In the grid guide view, have some kind of indicator icon/color on shows that are scheduled to be recorded.

They have this on the Comcast Motorola DVR, and it makes it really nice to look at the TV schedule that night and know what will and won't be recorded. The ToDo list doesn't quite cut it because you have to go back and forth with the guide to make sure you didn't forget to record something.

I second on that option that TiVo should add in next update or 2. Not just S3 but S2 too.

My DirecTiVos have multiunit conflict resolution (hacked feature).

Perhaps the Series 3 could have a call home (ping) every five minutes which would normally just say back to the TiVo "All is well" However if Uber TiVo Programming Monitor had a useless kids game running over, or some politico babbling on Uber could adjust the Guide for those channels only and make the message to the TiVo call in reply, "Here's some new info for you". followed by a mini guide update. Of course this would be for internet connectivity only. That old fashioned method of communication first implemented with a wire between two rooms, would not be able to keep up with the more sophisticated technology. C'est la vie.

I see from your post count that you're new here. I'm not trying to be too sarcastic, but this is one of the things that people have been asking for for years and years. (Not quite as much as a free space indicator for those of us who want such functionality, but pretty darn high up in the popular requests though.)

Though I guess one of the long-asked-for requests actually did make it in -- the recently deleted folder. That idea has been around for a long while too.

Could you give more details about your multi-unit conflict resolution?

Similar to my other reply, personally, this would be right up there with a FSI. If I could have ONE recorder with a SP list, and have it use multiple Tivos (with multiple tuners each potentially) to figure out how to record everything, that'd be something I'd pay a lot for.. (I have S1s with lifetime now.. I would VERY likely upgrade for multi-unit conflict resolution.. though I'm already strongly considering getting a S3 because of the lifetime transfer option).

It looks like someone at Tivo is watching. The Your Feature Ideas for the TiVo Service page (http://research.tivo.com/suggestions/2web519.htm) has been updated and now includes some of the ideas discussed in this thread along with many other good ideas.

you can add network cards to your s1's.

THen there is a hack that checks the todo list regularly and if it finds a confict asks the other boxes on the network if they can get the conflicting recording.

There is no way to get HMO's MRV on series 1's. But there are ways to move content from one s1 to another (although I dont think you can do it from the tivo itself- i *THINK* you need to go to a pc on the network to do it- but I could be wrong).

You should investigate some more on the web.

If Tivo would just open up the DVR functionality in the HME/HMO then I'm sure the hacking community would make a plug in to do it on s2's and s3's in a matter of days....

On my DirecTiVos Conflict resolution is a feature of the TivoWebPlus browser. A simple .itcl script to give TivoWebPlus the ability to look at the rest of the TiVos if you try to record three items at the same time. It is not on the TiVo interface shown on screen.

It's like the recently deleted recordings folder you don't think you need it then you try it and see it's usefulness. PIP with the ability to browse the schedule or what you've recorded is good for anyone who watches CNN, C-span or programs where the audio is more important than the video. And yes a number of us who worked more than 40 hour work are pressed for time.

how about one button closed captioning on / off. After hitting 8 second replay three time, if I cant figure out what was said, then dang, hit replay 4 times, and go thru process to turn on CC, after seeing what the actors said under their breath, then go thru the process to turn CC back off....

I second one button Closed Captioning on / off. CC when muted is also nice, but then mute is a TV control and not TiVo control, so I'm not sure how it can be implemented. With one button CC, CC when muted is only 2 button clicks, so maybe it's a viable workaround.
