    Hello everyone

I am semi new to the forum and might have missed it, so if this is discussed some were please let me know.

I have a series 2 life time subscription (non HD), and want to use it as a HD recording device. is there a way to make this happen? Can I say buy a HD recorder and switch out a card or reprogram it somehow?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

No yo cannot do what it seems you want.

There is no card. The box ID and that is on a crypto chip soldered to the system board. The TiVo software verifes that the crypto chip is on the correct model board, or uses the model info the crypto chip says it is, to know how to confugure the software for the hardware. The last I played with the inner woekings of TiVo OS/software, it was the latter (crypto chip told the OS what hardware it is). Any removable card on any TiVo (which excludes standalone Series 1/2 models), is only for authorization for a subscription TV programming service.

Product Lifetime is tied to the TSN of that box, period.
If you want it to apply to an HD TiVo, it would have to be moved by TiVo, which they likely will not do.
