I have a Series2 DT with 80gb drive (TCD649080). It has the Lifetime Service. Is this now a "throw away" device? (The cost of just basic Xfinity tv has gone so crazy I have now been on Hulu + Live for about a year.)

Thanks in advance for your ideas,

Keep it in touch with the mother ship (connect to TiVo) at least every 6 months so it's eligible for a transfer upgrade offer (buy box, get discounted lifetime).

Series2 boxes still function and are supported by TiVo, no?

That's what I just did in 2019. If that's what you want to do, make sure it's still hooked up and connecting to the TiVo service for updates regularly - that's a requirement for any upgrade they offer. Mine was not even hooked up to a cable box in the last couple months.

You could use it with satellite. You might get new customer pricing for the first year or two.

Just read that these can't be activated any longer? I guess active ones are still supported.

Could this model be connected to an HD OTA antenna? I know it doesn't have an ANT connector like a couple other TiVos I've had. I can't remember the setup wizard and if I could just set it on my local cbs channel and do manual recordings.

You’ll need an external digital converter box.

correct. Just like the Series3/TivoHD. As long as its active they will support it (for now)

The TCD649080 won't work with an OTA converter. box It only works with analog cable, cable converter box and satellite converter box. The only way to utilize both tuners was with analog cable which doesn't exist anymore, so you can only utilize one tuner. It does have an ethernet port, so you don't need the wireless USB adapter.

A perfect candidate for the (hopefully) next TiVo Series 2 upgrade promotional offer!
