is it possible to make this setup work? We have an HD with basic antenna, no cable, no satellite--works fine for 10 or so local channels which is all we want to record.

Just bought the Series 2, and Guided Setup gives no antenna option--just cable or satellite. Customer Support says "it'll work, but we don't support it so we can't tell you how."

Can anyone else? We're approaching 30 days so want to make it work or send it back.

A dual tuner Series2 has no antenna support. You need a single tuner Series2 (or a Series3/THD.)

Analog OTA (antenna) will be shut off in less than two years, so even if you get it to work, it will not have anything to tune in 2009.

What model number is your Tivo? As Arcady points out, the Series 2 Dual Tuner Tivos cannot receive over-the-air broadcasts.

If it is a 649 or 542, you will not have an antenna option. You need a Series 2 that ends in "0" or a DVD combo.

The model number is TCD649080. I think we'll just get the minimum cable package we can, in order to get the Series 2 to work, rather than exchanging it or returning it at this point. Thanks for the responses.

During guided setup, you should be able to tell it that you use cable w/o a box and then record from the available OTA VHF stations which would be anything on channels 2 thru 13. But the cable company may have moved them around in their analog lineup, in which case the guide data would not be accurate.
