Previously, I could transfer recordings to and from the tivo. However, with the premiere and the latest version of the desktop software, I can't seem to transfer any recordings back to the tivo.

Did they remove this functionality or am I just missing a menu option?

TiVo Desktop Plus allows that option.

Regular TiVo Desktop allows that option. It just limits it to MPEG and .TiVo files.

While of course I prefer pyTivo, I think TiVo Desktop should be working for the OP. But we need more info to diagnose. Let's start with: Windows or Mac?

Windows. And I used to do it with the Tivo Desktop, but I don't remember how. Haven't done it in ages. It shouldn't be this hard.

I haven't figured out how to PUSH videos to the Premieres using TIVO Desktop (maybe PLUS is required to PUSH?). However, standard Tivo Desktop software can make your videos on the PC available so your Premiere can pull them as needed. To do this:

    1- Open the Tivo Desktop
2- In the left frame, press the button labled "Share Music, Photos, and Videos"
3- When the screen switches, click on the Tab named "VIDEO"
4- When the screen switches, click on the "Add Video" Button
5- Browse to and Select the folder where your videos are stored

    Then...

On your TIVO- under "My Shows" you should find all available videos under the Folder Icon named "Now Playing on ...(PC)"

If the Premiere operates the same as a Series3/TivoHD, you should see your computer listed at the bottom of the Now Playing List (or My Shows ?).

If you don't see your computer listed at the bottom of the My Shows list....
What version of Tivo Desktop are you using? If 2.8 or later, you have the option of using Bonjour or Tivo Beacon for the discovery protocol.
Go to the Tivo Server Properties and then click the Network tab.
Switch the discovery protocol and see if that helps.

Okay, good so far. But for pics and music, subfolders are apparently included automatically.

For videos, they are not included. There's a checkbox, but that's only for auto-transfer....

I have LOTS of different folders. Do I have to "add" each one?

    Thanks, all!

Not necessarily. Are all your video folders segregated to a specific hard drive?
If so, you can create a shortcut for that hard drive on your desktop and then move that shortcut to your 'My Tivo Recordings' folder.

    OR

You could create a new folder titled Video Collection (or something to that effect) and move all your video folders into it.
Then you would only have to add that one folder.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, don't know why it won't work. All of my videos are in my "Videos" folder, but I can't look into subfolders on the Tivo, like I can with pictures and music.

I'll keep trying, thanks for the reply....

Are your videos in .mpg format?
IIRC, any videos not in .mpg or .tivo format will be ignored by the Tivo and the folder won't show up.

Tivo Desktop/plus does not have the push function.

TD+ has the auto-transfer feature option when defining Video folders. It uses the same method of having the TiVo mind server schedule the transfer to the TiVo. I believe TD+ version 2.8.2 now passes h264/AC3/mp4 files through without transcoding. I don't use TD+ except once or twice when a new release is available, just to see how it's doing.
