I don't think it's immediate. And whoever buys it will add it to their account anyway. Doesn't really matter much in the grand scheme. As long as your streaming accounts are gone. I have multiple households on my account. Never had anything bad happen because of it, not that the other households even know it.

As you found out there is nothing stopping anyone from placing the TiVo online and using it per your account (not counting apps). What you need to worry about is the new owner adding an extended warranty or other purchases and having them posted to your credit card on file (yes that happened to me). When you call to obtain the transfer reference number (which you give to the new owner) I believe if you ask they can remove any associated credit card.

Can you add an extended warranty to something way past its original warranty? Would think your scenario is only possible with products still under warranty. Could be wrong.

Good question. You don't mention monthly/yearly or lifetime service. To be safe when selling devices best to open second account. And move whatever devices you are selling to the second account. Then if someone does not follow through with the transfer at least they will not be using a device on your main account.

I sold my Roamio and Minis on eBay early this year. I did what others have mentioned. Call up TiVo and get a case number.

FWIW, my brother had an extra mini when mine died and I had no problem transferring it myself. I just gave them the serial number and they did it. I guess that might be because we have the same last name or maybe because it hadn't been active for a year or so (although it had been activated on his account - at another address).
