    Hi All:

Does anyone agree that Tivo should have a screen saver? I am an ex DirecTV customer, and their box had a screen saver that kicked in after a few mins, when a recording was paused. Tivo people, are you listening?

This is a lot harder than one might first think, due to the fact that The Tivo is still doing things even when the pause button has been pressed during playback.

LOL, you'll have about as much luck asking for clear QAM channel mapping, or co-op scheduling.

Bottom line is that it's not the Tivo Way (tm) even though many would agree it would be a useful option instead of defaulting to live TV. Replays did it.

Since resources at the mother ship seem to be tight I would rather Tivo spent time working on any number of other projects before a screen saver.

I'd like a screen saver. I am quite paranoid about burning anything into my TV, so if anything would help with that I wouldn't say no.

It's been many, many years since I've had a display or monitor that needed a screen saver.

Eventually a TiVo dumps back out to whatever channel its tuned to, supposedly to prevent screen burn. The only problem is if it's a channel with a "bug" always in place at the same place on the screen.

I used to spin Karaoke years ago in a bar that left the big screen on overnight tuned to CNN (to make it look to would-be breaker-in'ers like maybe somebody was inside).

The CNN logo was permanently burned in on the lower right hand side.

As you said that was years ago. Not saying it isn't possible with today's TVs but I can't imagine there are many Tivo customers that are using their sets in such a manner to make the feature more than eye candy to most of us.

Only CRTs and Plasma TVs have the ability to get burn in. CRTs are basically extinct and Plasmas are losing market share fast. While this would seem to be a simple feature with no reason not to implement it, I can see why TiVo might not consider it worth the resources.

Although 10 years ago when people first started asking for a screen saver CRTs were still prevalent and Plasma was pretty much the standard for HDTV, so it would have made a lot more sense back then.
