I've been meaning to start recording this show. This was a compelling ep: young pre-med student shot, cop shot, intensive police presence, who's the shooter?

This has a Flashpoint sorta feel to it. And it's nice to have new drama in the summer. And it's got Missy Peregrym.

    What more could you want?

    It's Gray's Anatomy in a police precinct.

As I happen to still enjoy watching Gray's (eye candy and high drama), I'll enjoy this too.

I'm the ideal TV drama consumer -- I have very low standards and expectations. :D

It's actually the 2nd season of this. Season 1 aired last summer. Good show!

With all the talk of the girl being so hung-go to be an organ donor, I was thinking that she was killed by someone on the transplant list...

Nah, the organ transplant issue was tailored for Gregory Smith (playing the compassionate cop Dov) so he could go all Everwood emo on them. :D

I liked the throwaway line from Swarek to McNally, that the reason why he was having a hard time switching jobs was because of her. He said it like a joke, but there was real meaning behind it.

They brought in the new police detective to throw a wrench in Andy's relationship. I predict Swarek and the new detective chick will be in a relationship as a substitute for the person they want to be with.

I am not a huge fan of cop shows, but for some reason (Missy Peregrym!) I like this one. I guess I like the Toronto locale too. Last season there was some discussion that they were trying to hide the fact that it took place in Canada and Toronto. There was no hiding this season with the CN Tower clearly in the background on the rooftop scene.

Yeah, it was very distracting last season on the ep when they kept saying "the long weekend" like it was a big deal holiday, when they were clearly trying to say the 4th of July weekend for the American audience and something more ambiguous for the Canadian audience.

While I enjoy them, for some reason I can't get past the very subtle differences in Rookie Blue, Flashpoint, and now Combat Hospital due them being made in Canada.

My wife and I started watching Combat Hospital and about halfway through, I said, "Man, this sure feels like another repurposed Canadian show", and then when the credits showed, sure enough it was.

Wasn't it a giveaway when not only the main character was a Canadian, but so was the Colonel doctor?

The blonde lets her Canadian accent slip from time to time. I've heard "aboot" once or twice. :)

I don't understand what you mean. She's a native-born Canadian playing a Canadian character on TV (who happens to live in Canada). How is her accent "slipping"?

I personally think they are still trying to keep the show as "American" as possible. While it is based in Canada, sadly, how many people really realize that it is being shot there?

I totally agree. So far there really hasn't been a plotline that could make it distinctly Canadian. Although, in this past episode, one of the cops DID call someone a "hoser" :)

I'm not sure what would make a plotline Canadian. Do you want a sniper at a hockey rink like in Flashpoint?

I guess they could get the RMP involved in a case, or even TALK about something Canadian. Have them stop at Tim Horton's for donuts (they ARE cops afterall), talk about the Leafs game, that sort of thing. The kind of thing they do on a show that takes place in NY, where you might see a Yankees cap on the detective's desk, or they talk about taking the subway to get to Brooklyn, or whatever.

Honestly, it's not the accents that give it away. There are plenty of American shows with Canadian actors that say "aboot". And then there are American shows with Canadian actors that are coached on how not to sounds Canadian.

I watched a Kevin Pollak podcast with Nathan Fillian a while back and he said that when he and Stana Katic are filming Castle, occasionally one of them will slip and say "aboot" or "shedule" instead of "skedule", and they'll get called out and have to redo the scene.

The crown on their insignia (and the really prominent one on the Captain's shoulder board) didn't give it away that it's not US?

I've never noticed. And for all anyone knows, it's a make-believe town, where they did a different design to intentionally not represent any city or police department.
