I looked through the forum but did not see this problem exactly.
I haven't used my Roamio over the summer and got it out for the new Fall season on the ota.
    Here is the problem.

1)It is continuously rebooting when I watch a recorded show while recording another.
2)It reboots when I first turn it on.

I can watch live TV when it is not recording.
I can watch a recording when it is not recording.

I am assuming that getting a external HD wont help, what can I do?
    It is well ventilated.

No an external HD won't help -- and generally is never a good idea anyway.

You say you're doing OTA so we can't blame anything on a cable company.

Sounds like a hard drive problem. You could run Kickstart diagnostics, code 54 as documented here:
    TiVo Kickstart Codes and Information
It sounds bad enough that it should show up early in the test sequencing.

New hard drives up to 3 TB will automatically be formatted when installed in a Roamio but check the many threads in this subforum for recommended drive models.

If your Roamio uses an external (wall wart) power supply, check the voltage first, since that is an easy cheap replacement.

BTW, does your handle mean you attended Kent State U.? I have a grandson who started there this fall.

There seems to be some lingering bug in the Roamio's. I'm dealing with one now and am probably going to clone the Drive, but am most hopeful that the Fall Update will provide the real cure...

Thanks, I ran the S.M.A.R.T. test and it said it was fine. Maybe the update will help.

    BTW- KSU 68-72

Do you have any Mini's? Are you using any MoCA?

Then I'm guessing your photo is from some time back. :)

I'm sure KSU is quite different now. My grandson has already had to move to a different dorm room -- roommate was a total pain. Never went to class. Brought booze and girls into the room and made noise to wee hours of the morning. Covered up the smoke detector so he could vape. Vomited on the floor Friday night then left for the weekend without cleaning it up. "Borrowed" my grandson's laundry detergent than left it in the laundry room. Why should society cater to idiots like this by paying high tuition and providing loans?

The picture is John Lennon from the Magical Mystery Tour album.
You are right the place has changed. My Wife and I were there last month and it was a whole different atmosphere.

    Yeah, this install too.

    4 Mini's. All on MoCA.

I recently connected the Roamio to Ethernet via a MoCA adapter. No improvement. Or at least very little.

It seems to reboot often in the morning while recording the Morning News show and watching from a Mini or 2...

Possible power supply issue? This has the external wall wart correct?

The system I'm dealing with does not have a wall-wart (that I know of, it's in a cabinet...).
