Advertisements I have a Roamio Plus bought new from Weaknees almost seven years ago with the HDD upgraded to 3TB. I just upgraded to 8TB using posts here, worked like a charm. While I had the case open, decided to replace the still-working fan since it was probably due for a new one anyway. My research on which new fan to buy led to considerable confusion. Can anybody explain how (if) the mobo on a Roamio Plus does fan speed control? It’s a 2-pin header which means the mobo controls fan speed by varying the voltage it supplies, correct? Or is the fan supposed to be always on with a constant speed? If it was a 3-pin (3-wire), that 3rd wire’s purpose is to inform the mobo what speed the fan was spinning but that’s not in use here. My ultimate goal is to identify a high-quality (high-performance) replacement fan. Cool temps are more important than avoiding noise. As a side issue, I wonder if I’m limited in buying a new fan that was built as 2-pin, or if there’s a better 3-pin fan for my needs that I can use or adapt. I tried a good 3-pin fan and sometimes it wouldn’t start at all and sometimes it was on constantly but at an unacceptably-low RPM. Thanks.
