I'm still trying to figure out exactly what's going on. My theory, Siobhan faked her death to get away and start over somewhere else. She assumed her sister would tell people. Then she finds out Bridgit assumed her identity and put a hit out on 'new Siobhan'. Now Bridgit has cleaned out the 'emergency account' that she planned to use for her new life in Paris.

This is the complete opposite theory I had after watching the first episode. So in all honesty, I have absolutely no idea what is going on here. I'm staying with it.

So if Siobhan didn't intend for Bridget to take over her identity, why did she leave her ring?

As a momento? Maybe she didn't see the point of taking a giant diamond ring to the bottom of the bay. Like I said, I'm just conjuring up all kinds of stories in my head to try to figure out what is going on.

I've been told that leaving stuff behind is fairly common in suicides.

And people who come into money tend to be extremely attached to it. Maybe the thought of throwing away a giant rock was more than she could bear?

Plus it was a way for the writers to make it easier for Bridget to steal Siobhan's identity.

I still can't believe anybody takes the notion that Siobhan would expect Bridget to steal her identity seriously! The idea is just so bizarre to me...

I missed the first one, but caught this episode last night. I thought it was pretty good - not great, but interesting and I do like SMG, so I'll keep watching for a bit.

Do I need to go back and find/watch the first episode?

If she's that attached to the ring, wouldn't she leave it somewhere safer than rolling around a boat in a pill bottle? Why not just leave it in her jewelry box?

"i didn't want to wear it out on the boat, might get lost at sea."

Leaving the ring in a bottle makes it clear this was a (faked) suicide, not an accident.

Why would she want it to look like a suicide?

Because then she'd be dead, and the people who are after her would stop being after her.

The plan: Drug Bridget; go away; Bridget wakes up; "Oh noes, my sister killed herself!" Siobhan lives happily ever after in Paris on the money she squirreled away.

She wasn't counting on Bridget stealing her identity, finding the secret bank account, and emptying it. So now suddenly she's stranded in Paris with no money. BAD Bridget!

Why would Siobhan want it to be clear that her faked death was a suicide rather than an accident?

I think you missed the point of her question. See my previous post.

    At first glance:

    a) to screw her husband out of any life insurance he may have on her
    b) so neither her husband nor her sister are accused of murdering her

    A), perhaps.

b), definitely not. Siobhan couldn't care less about her sister and husband getting into trouble.

By the way, leaving the ring does not prove it was not an accident. If she decided to go swimming, she might take the ring off. Then have an accident befall her while swimming.

An unintentional side effect, then. Having it go down as a murder investigation means intense scrutiny of the sort somebody faking their own death doesn't want.

Why not just leave a suicide note? That is much better for demonstrating a suicide than an ambiguous ring-leaving.

    Yes, that was my question.

I can't imagine there's much life insurance on her...AFAICT he's the one with all the money.
