Looking forward to seeing how well it works. I have a DT800 that the burner just died in, I'd like to know if this is a viable fix. Thanks, Greg.

The Pioneer DVR-115D is working fine both play and record in my Humax DRT-800. You can add this model to the list of replacement burners that work in the Humax TiVos. Don't know about Pioneer or Toshiba TiVos. Here is the New Egg link.

That's good to know, I'm gonna get one for mine. Thanks, Greg.

[Edit] Tried it (the DVR-115D), works like a charm. Thanks for trying it for us Mars, glad I didn't have to spend $100+ when this option works.

Anyone tested any other confirmed working drives for this drt800 humax?

I have a problem i think is related to the burner (altho mine had VERY little use) I thought my hard drive was going bad but realized i ONLY have a rebooting issue when i insert a dvd, if i manually take the tivo apart and remove the dvd the tivo works great for days weeks months, but the moment i stick a dvd into it the unit starts into a vicious rebooting cycle.

If i then take the unit apart and remove the disc (with a paperclip) since the eject buttons do nothing as the unit reboots, once i plug it back in with no disc everything again is fine over and over I have tested this, tivo works great until i insert a disc, so im thinking the burner is goofed up or something, looked for the dvr-115D mentioned above at newegg but it says deactivated, curious if anyone has tried the newer versions of drives with success or not

Also curious if anyone has had the rebooting cycle like I have occur with a drt800 after inserting a dvd, guessing its gotta be the dvd drive, but just would like some confirm if it has happened to anyone else.

This is a known issue with really scratched or dirty discs, and I've seen it a few times on my player. But good discs still work fine. Have you tried multiple DVDs or have you just seen this problem on one or two discs?

It has happened on a few rental discs from blockbuster, neither looked horrible but i gotta pull the drive again anyways (to get another disc out) so this time ill try a NEW dvd (my collection) with no scratches, will be interesting to see what happens...

MY dvd-116DBK will be here wednesday ill pop that in too and try it as well just to confirm if that model works in the humax drt 800 and to see if it fixes my perpetual rebooting issue that the current player seems to do until i take the unit apart to remove the disc.

If there is no disc in it the tivo works great so hoping that new pioneer unit will work and fix the issue, but for the heck of it ill try a new no scratches disc in there too and report back...

Just because it isn't totally clear from your post, you do know that you should be able to remove the disc without having to remove the DVD drive from the TiVo? The paperclip works just as well if you just flip down the door from the Humax, and stick the paperclip in that way...

This might be what you are doing already, but just wanted to save you some effort if you were not.

yeah while putting it back together today i realized DUHH i coulda just used my fingernail to pull the humax door cover down and stick the paperclip in vs taking it all apart (like i did to remove it in the past).

But now with this new pioneer drive in there it seems to read/burn/play everything fine, but yeah i felt dumb after looking at it closer (I had taken it all apart 2x to get the discs out). hehe

I did post about the pioneer replacement drive dvd-116DBK i got from newegg that works great in my drt800 btw here in this thread

Appears I have the dvd burner problem . Used to transfer from hard drive to dvd-r and dvd-rw when purchased 3 years ago. Lately(last year or so only dvd-rw's would work . Now last week or so neither would work on any brand. How much are the burners if any left and are there any instructions.

I haven't tried it yet, but I just received a new Pioneer DVR-116DBK from NewEgg. It was only $23. I was ordering some other stuff anyway, so I added it to my order. I followed the tip from FTLOSM who says it works in his Humax: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=6892536#post6892536

At that price, I figured it's worth a try! Oh... my drive didn't die, but I figured it is a good idea to have a backup in case they stop making burners that will work.

And they're a piece of cake to swap out... just open it up with a Torx screwdriver and replace the existing burner with the new one. Hook up the power and IDE cable to the new one in the same way they were connected to the old one. Should be a 5 minute job. Remember to unplug the power and steer clear of the open power supply once you remove the cover of the unit.

Yep mine worked 100% fine in my humax DRT800, all functions rec, play, open close tray, work like a charm.

The swap was super easy too, just used the torx and swapped that puppy out and now I have full record and playback with no issues using that pioneer 116 drive from newegg.

I have the Toshiba DVD/Tivo unit. Does anyone know if the 116BDK drive will work with that unit as well?

Thanks I just saw that. I am going to run some test today to on my drive. When I put a copy of a movie in it doesn't recognize it but then when I put the original in it recognizes it fine. Could it be the software of the tivo and not the drive itself?

I am going to do some test burns today to see if it freezes.

For $40 I can get a nice upconverting DVD player, that might be a better option then fixing the Tivo.

I just installed a DVR-116DBK from NewEgg in my Humax DTR-800, but I found that the plastic front plate on the DVR-116DBK drawer is a bit taller than the one on the original burner, so the bottom edge of the DVR-116BbK drawer catches on the top edge of the Humax flop-down door, preventing the drawer from closing fully. I found that I could remove that plastic front plate from the DVR-116DBK (it snaps off), and now it works fine.

I have been unable to find the 111's or 116s drives; does anyone know if the DVR-118LBK drive work in the Humax DT800s? If not that drive, what other alternatives besides what Weakness offers?
    Thanks
    jeff
