Replace TCD24004A HD with one from a TCD649080 or a TCD540040?

It appears that the TCD24004A I've had for 9 years is toast - I now have the eternal gray "Welcome, Powering up..." screen after I unplugged and plugged it back in. I've tried rebooting, unplugging, disconnect network adapters, etc.

The problem is my TCD24004A has lifetime service on it that I want to keep. So I got my hands on TCD649080 and a TCD540040 from people that were no longer using them. Is there a way for me to take advantage of these other working Tivos so I can keep my lifetime service intact? I've tried swapping the hard drives with no success.

I am computer literate, but haven't been able to wade through the other threads to know if they apply to me or not.

    Any help?

Lifetime is associated with the service number on the tivo board and not the hard drive.

You'll need a "TCD240" image on the harddrive, so the software knows exactly what hardware is installed. The TCD540 and TCD649 more than likely had drivers for different hardware, and why a swap of those harddrives didn't work. Here's weaKnees' offering for your model: http://www.weaknees.com/tivo-series2-tcd24004a.php
