I have a series 2 lifetime box and want to upgrade to S3. Is it possible to move my lifetime sub to a new S3? I'm thinking on the "Manage my Account" section on the tivo website, i would just change my tivo service number, is that correct.

I understand it would deactivate my S2, which would be fine.

Has anyone else done this? I want to be sure before I upgrade.

TiVo had permitted transfer of a S1 or S2 lifetime subscription to an S3 for a fee of $199(?) when the S3 was initially sold last year. The offer ended on purchases after 12/31/06. During the current $200 rebate offer for the S3, I doubt that they will also offer a lifetime transfer promotion.

If you retain the existing S2, you can subscribe to a new S3 for as little as $6.95 per month as a MSD (multiple service discount) unit. [A $199 lifetime transfer promotion would pay back in 199/6.95 = 29 months.]

They will probably still xfr a life to an S3. (There are reports that they are still honoring the xfr to an S3 only.) Once you initiate the XFR, the rebate is no longer an issue, since you can't get a rebate without a new service commitment.

Well actually you can (or could) as I have not tried this year but most likely you will get the rebate if you fill out the paperwork correctly. I have over three time in 2006 using a service xfer. It worth a try.
