Ok, I've had Charter's triple play for several years and they have always offered my a good renewal rate until now. My two year deal runs out next month and in calling them they don't even want to offer what they give new subscribers to keep me as a customer.

I'm just about pissed off enough to say the hell with them and dump their ass for U-Verse or Direct TV. I don't want to give up my Tivo's and change service, but in this economy they seem to be fairly arrogant.

Has anyone else got any kind of deal with them lately?

How many times have you called? I don't have Charter but with Comcast if I don't a good offer I wait a week or so to try again and hope for a better offer...

    Some where...
I am with Comcast. Here they will give you a pretty good deal but not like the new subscriber rates. I get a laugh when people cry because the can not get the new sub rate. The new sub rates are for new sub not subs who have been with Comcast a long time. I get a good discount with Comcast but I am not crying because I did not get the new sub rate.

Well calling back does pay off. I got hold of a nice midwestern girl from Wisconsin and got offered a similar plan to what I had for $25 less a month.

I think Tom Petty made a song about midwestern girls.

Actually, both the song and the midwestern girl are creations of a call center in New Delhi.

They will typically give you some discount, but generally never as good as new subscribers. It's flawed business logic to say 'why can't they give me the same discount as new people, I've been with them for 2+ years'. The ENTIRE reason they give you a nice discount when you are new is b/c they want to capture you as a customer. They are willing to lose money on you the first year or so, but eventually they have to raise the rates. This is seen everywhere- banks offer sign on bonuses only to new customers, credit cards have mileage bonuses for newbies, etc. Sure charter should keep offering some deals to retain you, but these are never as good as the newbie discounts.

If you really want to push them hard, call and say you want to cancel- they will get you to the cancellation dept. They have the power to offer better deals- explain you are paying too much and mention at&t has a better offer- that is your best shot at a real good deal. But if you do that be prepared to cancel and switch. Look at u-verse and direct tv- do you really want that? What about internet? Do you want to ditch tivo? Also, the rates for u-verse/direct tv that you will be quoted are for 'new customers' which means that 1-2 years from now they will also jack up your rates...
