I binged the first 3 episodes of it and have to say I kept not knowing what to make of where they were going with the story, but it's sure a wild ride so far, I'll give them that.

We watched the first 3 episodes today. It's very good. But we like the genre.

I'm glad they are fishing it out weekly after these first 3 episodes, or we would be stuck to the TV all weekend.

I read an article with Travis Fimmel about the show. He said he'd never do TV again but when Ridley Scott contacted him about the show he jumped on it before he even knew what the show was about. I just binged the first three episodes last night and it was definitely different, but I liked it. What gets me is that they escaped from Earth to get away from a war between the Atheists and a religious group that worships a god named Sol. I assume the androids were on the side of the Atheists since they're telling the kids not to practice religion. I assume that Marcus and his wife were with the Atheists but had their appearance changed to get on the Ark and escape from Earth along with the Sol worshipers. I was confused as to who the Necromancers were actually attacking since Marcus and his wife were fleeing from them. Whose side were they on? I'm sure that will become clearer as the show progresses so I'll just sit back and enjoy the show.

Caleb and Mary were Atheists on Earth. But they were losing the war, and only the Mithraics were going to get off planet. So they stole the identities of two Mithraic soldiers, Marcus and Sue, and "joined up." When the Necromancers were attacking, they were attacking indiscriminately; Caleb and Mary were just trying to get out of the line of fire.

It's interesting how everything seems very black and white at the beginning, but by the end of the third episode everything turns out to be a lot more complicated than we thought.

That was basically my take on it too. Seeing the Necromancers attacking Caleb and Mary just kinda muddied the waters a bit so it was unclear if they were on anyone's side or just out to kill everything in sight. Clearly Asimov's three laws of robotics are not in play here.

When we watched the trailer, I told hubby I thought this was one of those shows where you didn't know who the bad guys or the good guys were... And I think it is going to be complicated.

Androids in general can work for either side though.

There has to be more to the Necromancers. I believe I heard from Marcus, the pretend Mythric guy, that Mother must've been reprogrammed by the atheists, and how he thought no one could do that. I'm not sure the atheists unleashed then onto the world. Maybe there were more sides to the war, maybe there Mythric did it to purge all. I'm not sure, just we seem to be missing some facts.

Also Marcus said they thought the atheists didn't have the resources to build an Ark and his flash backs made it seem like had nothing .

They didn't. All they sent was a ship containing two androids and some embryos. They were depending on the androids to rebuild their society from scratch.

(It's Mithraic, by the way. Followers of Mithras.)

Episode 1 really should have been titled "Well, that escalated quickly". When I watched the trailer, I assumed the series of events shown would play out over the entire season, and was concerned I had just had too much of the season's plot spoiled. Clearly that wasn't a valid concern...

I'm not sure if Episodes 2 and 3 answered more questions that they raised, or raised more questions than they answered.

Did we ever got a clear answer as to why "Marcus" and "Sue"'s son was so distant, and why he said that they (the real parents) never spoke to him? Did I miss a greater explanation, or were the real Marcus and Sue just religious warriors who never had time for their son?

I get the feeling that among the Mithraists, community/religious ties are far more important than family ties...

    The Mithraic created the Necromancers.

I rewatched episode 3 and heard the line better. The Mithraic leader says the atheists have never been able to reprogram "their" Necromancers.

Sorry if I was the only one confused.

Paul's initial reaction to Mouse was that he didn't want a pet that he'd have to kill to prove he loved Sol better.

I don't think Marcus and Sue were very nice people. I don't think any of the Mithrats are very nice people, except maybe the blonde.

Heads up (for anyone like me that didn't realize) - they dropped two episodes today. I watched Ep 4, didn't realize Ep 5 was out, then in my internet wanderings found discussion of Ep 5. Didn't really spoil anything, but confused me real good until I realized people were talking about scenes I hadn't seen yet.

Edit: It looks like two episodes next Thursday as well, so that's apparently just their thing.

Hopefully they're all excited about the show, and not just dumping it... ;)

There could be lots of reason for the multiple release of episodes.

    If
it is that the ratings were low, I think HBO Max not having native apps for Amazon Fire (without side-loading) or Roku plus I imagine most cable HBO subscribers haven't migrated, means the available possible audience for this show is not as large as one would hope, so maybe they're trying to generate a buzz?

Honestly except for ads, and this site, I haven't seen much discussion about this show like it's not on anyone's radar. Unless there's a reddit sub I'm not aware of discussing the show there's little chatter there too.
