Anyone else watching this? First episode was last night. It's about the show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and it's origins in the UK. There's obviously much more to it than that including a scandal. But the first episode sets that up.

3 part mini, not really a “season”.
I liked the lead actor in HBO’s Succession.
I recorded and will watch after all 3 have aired.

I read a review that said:
They focus more on the personal life and not how it was accomplished. So don't expect detailed answers as how it was pulled off.

Saw this via magical means when it aired in the UK. Well made and good performances from Matthew Macfadyen and an uncanny impersonation of Chris Tarrant by Michael Sheen (Brits will know Chris from shows like Tiswas and others).

As for the above comment, although it's not really necessary, I'll spoilerize my comment to avoid upsetting anyone...

Seeing as they never admitted doing it and are still pursuing legal recourse, it actually goes a long way to explain how it was done from the producers' point of view. I was left with little doubt.

I padded Killing Eve 5min and caught the beginning. So went to the AMC app to watch. I liked the 1st episode and will continue.

I'm impressed they were able to use the actual music/graphics/etc. from "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." I realize both "...Millionaire" and "Quiz" were produced for ITV, but there are often weird rights issues that can crop up with things like that.

Was the soap opera effect especially bad here, or was it me? Felt like I was watching with Auto Motion Plus on - so much so that I had to go in the menus to confirm that I did not.

I agree -- worse than any other British show I've seen in quite some time.

I didn't notice that problem at all. Maybe it's worse on other TVs than others?

It's not really about the origins of Millionaire; it is specifically about the scandal. It's based on a book and a play, both about the scandal.
Agreed. I also was impressed at how accurately they replicated that version of the Millionaire set.
    Most definitely. Very distracting.

I don’t recall the real story, so based just on the show, I don’t understand why it wasn’t even discussed letting him keep the money with an NDA, and not airing the show.

At least according to this miniseries:
The first episode with Ingram, he did badly enough that there wasn't much evidence of cheating, so that episode aired without incident. By the time they figured out the cheating, they considered just editing out the first half of episode 2, but they were concerned that simply disappearing the first half of episode 2 would make viewers wonder what happened... especially because the confetti on the floor would be an indication that there was a million pound winner.

Only watched ep 1 so far but I'm ready to declare that Michael Sheen was put on this Earth to play Chris Tarrant.

I had skipmode on last night's episode.. but I started it while it was airing so really ended up only being able to non-30-second skip about half of the commercials.

I thought this was very entertaining. The scandal was deeper than I had previously heard.

Also, some of what they supposedly did could have been done "legitimately" I think. Didn't they use the group of people for the "phone a friend" as well as the phone in qualifying section? Seems to me they could have legitimately said that it was a friend of a friend they were calling (even if it was really a group of people in a room).
