No cable cards needed for basic cable operation, correct?

The cable cards are for high-def and premium staions, correct? Thanks, someone asked and I figured I'd check here rather than "assume" on my own...:)

No cable cards needed for analog cable channels. They are needed for digital channels.

That's not totally true. You "can" get digital stations and HD stations without cableCARDs, but you can not get any guide data. The cableCARDs map the channels so that they are channel numbers we recognize and that TiVo can use to provide guide data. If you do a search of your cable without cableCARDs, you will come up with tons and tons of stations like 117-1, 117-2, 117-3, 117-4, etc. If you check each station, you will find some that even include VOD and PPV. I found Howard Stern on one PPV channel, unscrambled.

Anyway, all of that is pretty much useless without the guide data. You can only do a manual record.
