I noticed that there are additional episodes for season 1. Are they integral to the season 1 plot? or can they be skipped?

That looks to be a disc of special features.

There are only 13 episodes in Series 1 of the new Doctor Who.

Those are probably all Doctor Who Confidential episodes, think of it as behind the scenes extras.

The other posters are correct. BBC produces a companion show to "Doctor Who" entitled "Doctor Who Confidential." This show is exclusively behind the scenes stuff. The contents of the disc listed above are all segments from "Confidential."

To be specific, I believe they are what the BBC brands "Doctor Who Confidential Cutdown," which are abbreviated versions of "Confidential." If you catch Doctor Who on PBS or American Public Television affiliates in the United States, they will often pad the 42-45 minute Doctor Who episode out to a full hour by showing these "Cutdowns."
