And now, if you'll excuse me...I must have a geek moment.

I can't wait to watch Pushing Daisies, as is evident by my sig. Of all the fall TV series, this one's been getting the loudest and best buzz from the critics. ABC's really enamored with it, planning a big promotional push. I was skeptical at first of that announcement but lo and behold Pushing Daisies co-star Kristen Chenoweth was on The View several days ago and promoted it; they even played a clip. Plus I've been seeing alot of TV spots for it on ABC.

My fingers and all of my other appendages are crossed that ABC markets the hell out of Pushing Daisies. If FOX had this, they'd mismarket the series, air it twice, maybe three times, the episodes would air out of order, they'd then cancel it and promise to stream the episodes on FOX.com before ultimately deciding not to.

In a recent news article the Pushing Daisies love seems shared between both ABC and Warner Brothers (the studio producing the series)...

The script for the series touched off a bidding war between NBC and ABC and Bryan Fuller chose ABC...

I don't want to get all starry-eyed but it's refreshing to hear that type of sentiment from the suits, after years of my favorite TV series getting the FOX treatment.

In any case, I'm over the moon excited about Pushing Daisies and hope that it's around for a long time.

How does he know that touching her again will kill her?

This sort of reminded me of an item in Torchwood... ;)

Sounds to me like a deliberate "leak" by the studio... for promotional purposes. (NTTAWWT.)

    I'll check it out.

There was a different press release/synopsis that explained how he knew that.

Here's an excerpt from an interview where Kristen Chenowith describes it:

He can touch people — that's how he brings them back, but he has 60 seconds to decide. If he touches them again before 60 seconds, they go back to being dead. If he leaves it, they live, but somebody else drops dead. It's very complicated.

After watching it, I kinda feel duped. It's rather smarmy and reminds me of poor storytelling techniques where a narrator is required to make sense of anything or, worse, where the obvious is explained in narration as if we're all 3-year-olds.

It feels like it just lacks something important, like characters we actually care about or sympathize with, but not quite exactly that. We never had much chance to become emotionally interested in any of the characters, we were just told how we should like them or understand them.

Oh well... no doubt I'll watch it until it's canceled/pulled from the schedule. But it just felt disappointing after all the glowing comments I'd read about the show before.

To be fair, this is often the problem with pilot episodes for series that have any kind of depth to them. They have to try and explain everything in the first episode, so that people will watch the second one (because Lord knows if they aren't pulling their expected numbers by episode 3, they're gettin' the axe!). As a result, I think a lot of really good shows have really crappy pilot episodes.

I was able to watch the nearly three minute intro which looks interesting. Unfortunately, the ABC video player for the full episode is only compatable with Vista, XP or Windows 2000. I have Windows ME.

Just this past weekend I was at Best Buy andcamethisclose to buying a new computer, the HP 6103 (I think that's the model). It has 3 gigs of memory. With a 17" LCD monitor it goes for about $1000. For a couple of hundred dollors less I could get a 2 gig of memory model. My current computer lacks a CD burner or DVD player/burner and it doesn't have a USB 2 port, just the older slower USB 1. But wanting it and needing it are two different things. While I don't mind spending a little on something I don't need or a lot on something I do need, I don't like to spend a lot on something I don't need.

Just got finished watching. What an odd show.

I'm intrigued by it, but it just has this huge creepy factor emanating from it that I'm not sure I can get over. Doug, I kind of see what you're saying about the narrator, but this show has such an odd premise, I really think most people would have been totally lost if the "Terms of Service" ;) were not clearly laid out by a narrator.

They obviously wanted to have something of a fairy tale feel to the presentation. But I thought it detracted more from the story and put me, the viewer, in a position of not getting as invested in the characters as I might've been if they'd developed them better and let us be part of the process.

I'm certainly willing to watch, because I like the premise. Maybe I was expecting it to be a little more like "Dead Like Me" in execution. We'll see how it goes after a few episodes. Right now, though, I just don't "care" about the main character like I think I should. And if you don't care what happens to the main character, there's not as much reason to care about tuning in week after week to watch.

I kept thinking it was the same narrator as the Grinch who Stole Christmas. Other than that i thought it was a cute show. Definitely some conflict on who he can touch :).

Hey! Let's at least mention the man by name: Boris Karloff. :)

He was also the voice of the Grinch as well.
