I absolutely ADORED the outfit that Victorya and Jillian made. Seriously adored it. LOVED it. In fact, I'd go out on a limb and say it's my favorite outfit from the whole of the show-all seasons. If I were skinnier, I'd try to make an outfit like that for myself. It was amazing.

I do think the right winners won, though, because they executed the challenge better. But frankly, Christian's getting on my fricken' nerves. He's so young. He needs to tone himself down and he could be my favorite of this season. But as it is, his superior attitude really turns me off.

A few years ago I was coaching volleyball at my CATHOLIC high school. I was asked to chaperone prom. One of my players showed up in a two piece red hoochie outfit. When I say two piece I'm not talking just skirt and top. The top was more like a cut -off crop top. It came down to right above her belly button so she could show off her piercing. It was nicely made, but it looked like she on a I Dream of Jeanie!

Wife and I just ran through the season so far over the last 4 days. I think we're enjoying it more than any other. (watched all of last season and maybe half of the one before that)

Even people who annoy me have some redeeming qualities. And when they annoy me one episode, they amuse me the next. Christian's constant over-estimation of his own abilities, and Romi's "leadership" qualities are the most annoying.

I though Victoria's and Jillian's main outfit in this last episode was awesome, but I don't understand how the little dress connects to the avant guard outfit at all.

And what's with Victoria always having her models "stomp walk?"

It's black with plaid trim, and it is fitted on top and has a ruffle-y bit on the bottom.

    That's pretty much it.

They got away with it because the dress was well-made. If they had tried to do a look that was copied more literally but not constructed well, they would have been criticized for that. So they risked just using the color ideas for their commercial garment, and the judges went for it.

Because he amuses us! :) (Although last week he didn't actually break down and cry about anything.)

AFAIC, Sweet P. is equally deficient skills-wise. She always seems to need help from other people to pull of simple dresses. Yes, I know she won 2 weeks ago but I think that was more due to the fact that everyone else's dresses missed the mark. I didn't think her dress was anything memorable.

I think the final 3 will be Victoria, Jillian and Christian. Rami's elimination is only a matter of time but I'd hate to see him go before Ricky or Sweet P. Although they criticized Uli the same way last year (Michael Kors: "You're a one trick pony, flowing prints") and she managed to survive until the end.

Victorya, deservedly gone! That dress was horrendous. And Jillian definitely needs to learn to edit her designs to the time alloted. I personally would have chosen Sweet P over Ricky. I thought her use of colors was wonderful.

Obviously Michael Kors agrees with you -- she really surprised him. Her use of the different washes was excellent.

Isn't it nice to see an episode with lots of strong designs? This is a week where it would have been tough to be on the judging panel.

I can see why the judges gave it to Ricky. The raw materials were all 501 jeans, right? And they wanted an iconic garment?

What's the signature feature of the 501s? The button fly. And Ricky's design put the button fly right out there as the focus of his garment.

So yes, while there were many strong candidates this week, given the way the challenge was presented, Ricky's design is the obvious winner.

Great design ideas AND fabulous execution.

Bravo for Ricky! It was great to see him finally knock one out of the park.

Sweet P. is obviously capable of great things too -- that day dress she did last week was fabulous.

That day dress that Sweet P. made when she was teamed with Rami was spectacular, especially when you consider the short amount of time she had to design and execute it.

It is not easy to gather or pleat all that material into a yoke and have it come out smoothly -- the execution was outstanding.

Note that the judges commented that the day dress was more fashion-forward than the dress that was supposed to be avant-garde. Sweet P. was more successful at translating the team's idea to ready-to-wear than the main garment was.

I don't see how you can say she needs help to pull off 'simple' dresses, when she can turn out a stunning difficult dress like that in a limited time.

I guess I'm weird. I HATED Sweet P's dress and kinda liked Jillian's.

Frankly, there wasn't anything last night that really jumped out at me. It was all kinda blah.

And Christian's attitude is about to make me change the channel. Ugh.

Angie, I'm starting to wonder if we should use the post title to make a note of what episode our comment belongs to....

When you are talking about Sweet P vs. Jillian above, I assume you mean the prom dresses, but the 'last night' comment returns the discussion to the blue jean challenge?

It's ambiguous because Bravo re-ran the two previous weeks before the new episode. And certainly Christian can make one want to change the channel during any week. :D

For the Levi's challenge, I think Jillian shot herself in the foot because of the spectacular jacket the week before. I saw her styling the denim collar on the dress form and thought 'uh-oh, she's repeating herself, and they hate that' . Her denim look definitely did not have the panache of the avant-garde jacket.

As obnoxious as Christian can be, I have to tip my hat to him for the Levis' challenge outfit. It was audacious, mixing up all the bits so that sleeves from jackets turned into pants legs and bits from pants were made into the top. And he made good use of the accessory wall, too. Whether you liked his look or not, if you consider the construction, it was inspired, and very well executed.

Good heavens, if Christian says "fierce!" one more time.....
But it's true, his outfit screamed "Christian designed this". And it was quite innovative. But he makes everything fit so tightly, it's just not what I personally like.

There's an interesting comment in Tim Gunn's book -- he says that in class, he does not allow his students to say that they like a design.

If you work in the industry, you have to put that aside and get straight to the business of whether or not the design works or doesn't work.

In my case (reviewing books) -- whether I like a book or not is a completely different scale than the quality of the writing. I can say that (list of elements) made a book especially effective for me, and that is why I like it, but that kind of statement is a far cry from what a lot of people do, which is to say "I hated this book therefore it sucks."

Within the same designer's portfolio, whether you like that designer's work or not, it is possible to pick out which outfit is more successful and which is less successful.

Oh sorry, yes, that is a problem with one thread for the entire season.

I was speaking of the jean challenge. I hated Sweet P's and kinda liked Jillian's.

I actually hated all the jean outfits. What a waste of a challenge-not that the challenge was bad but the contestants did nothing outstanding with it.

That's interesting. Yes, a very good way to look at it. I wonder if my local library has Tim's book.

I'll have to remember that this show is aired on Wednesday nights! I jumped into the thread when I was caught up, but then got spoiled by this post last Thursday, and didn't watch the show until a couple of days ago.

But I agree that I wanted to see Victorya gone.

Any predictions at this point who will make it to the final three? I think Jillian, Romi, and Christian are the most consistently appreciated by the judges. I'd love to see Chris in the final three, but I don't think he'll survive the judges.

Even though I like Sweet P, I don't think she has the attitude to go all the way, or be a big designer. She's too nice. :)

One thing I'd love to see at some point is a challenge to the judges to do what they demand of the contestants. It would be really interesting to see what any of them could throw together in 12 hours.

If you've watched any episode of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, some of the contents of the book Tim Gunn's Guide to Style will be ... familiar. ;)

But there are fun parts where Tim talks about his own need to update his look when he started at Parsons.

Nina's Little Black Book of Style is a lot of fun, too.
