This is a poll for those with S3 who may be experiencing an issue with either one or the other of their Cable Cards/Tuner suddenly not displaying digital (QAM) channels after the TiVo 9.1 Update. In this case, analog channels will display fine, but no digital QAM channels will display (typically on CC/tuner #2.) A reboot is required to correct but the problem will eventually manifest again later.

I had this happen on tuner 1 immediately after the upgrade. Rebooting fixed it, but it's only been a little over a day so far.

I used to think it was tied to cable card 2, but recently cable card 1 has started flaking out also. This all started with 9.1.

I voted no since I have not experienced the complete blackout of one cable card, just intermitent channel outages that are easily fixable. And 9.1 did not cause any problem.

I'm beginning to think you simply have a bad cable card that surfaced with the software update. It will be difficult to prove that 9.1 actually caused the card to go bad. Have you called out the cable techs yet?

It might also be a signal strengh problem. On both my machines, they had trouble getting the 2nd CC to take a hit until they replaced a splitter in the basement. Good Luck!

Apparently, the CCs can be assigned to either tuner 0 or tuner 1. If you check out the troubleshooting doc at Tivo.com, they ask you to start recording prior to checking the diagnostics screen so as to LOCK the tuner to a specific cable card.

Not sure what 9.1 did, but something's amiss...

I'm calling Comcast again tomorrow and will have them "re-hit" my cards per TiVo's CS suggestion.

Over 15 people reported it just today at my last count. Multiple people that reported a reboot seems to fix the problem, which isn't indicative of a bad cable card, and reported not seeing this behavior before 9.1 That's people who know about this forum and noticed it in the first day or so of the update.

Why are people being so protective of Tivo here? It's great and all you don't have the bug, but that's generally the nature of bugs. People appear to have a genuine problem that cripples the basic functionality of the device they primarily utilize to watch TV. A problem that appears to have been introduced by Tivo in a software update.

I have 2 series 3's in different parts of my house. One is a direct run from the amp, the other goes through some splitters. Both, according to diagnostics, have good signal and good SNR. What happens is that I randomly loose CableCard 1 OR 2 on these machines. The loss does not occur simultaneously on both machines. Nor does the loss ever seem to occur on both CableCards. Instead, randomly, one S3 will simply lose a Card. A few days latter, the other S3 will lose a card. A reboot always fixes this issue. The issue manifested itself after I received 9.1 update.....I had no problems before this!

If this were a hardware issue, I doubt that 4 CableCards in 2 S3's would exhibit random drops, especially when these issues are coincident with the software update.

It happens to me to, starting with the 9.1 update. I've had the S3 for almost a year and NEVER had any sort of cable card problem. My cards are fine and so is my TiVo.

I will NOT be calling a cable tech out. It isn't their fault, nor their problem.

I wonder if the problem more specifically related to the type of SA CC's...I have one S3 with (SA)S-Cards that is experiencing problems and another S3 with (SA)M-Cards that is working fine.

Would an additional poll regarding cable companies be useful? I believe most, if not all, that experience the problem are Time Warner or Comcast.

I have this problem with SA CCs and time warner, but I don't need to reboot to fix it, I just change the channel. So I picked one of the "no" options.

I have been able to "fix" it as well this way. Yet, the problem came back again. To me even more of interest, did your shows still record ok during the "blank" time? In any case, you did have the problem as you needed to do "something" to fix it. To me the reply would have been "yes".

Guys, when you change the channel, you change tuners. Since only one of the CableCards is affected, the other should be ok. So when you change channels, to "fix" you likely need to make sure which tuner you're on and which CableCARD is tied to it?

If you are actually seeing the issue, then you have to make sure that BOTH tuners are tuned to QAM digital channels at the same time. You can switch between tuners by hitting "live TV" button.

    1.) Tune a Digital channel #1
2.) Hit "live TV" which will switch you to other tuner
    3.) Tune a Digital channel #2
4.) Hit "Live TV" several times to switch between tuners.

Still have video/audio on both Tuners? If so, you don't have the problem.
If you Don't have Video/Audio on one of the tuners, that would be the problem.

Then, changing channels on the affected Tuner/CableCARD has no effect, unless you tune to an Analog channel. Analogs work fine, no QAM channels will come in on the affected tuner...including "In-the-clear" QAM channels which require NO authorization.

I've only seen the issue be specific to one CableCARD/Tuner at a time. Switching channels on the affected tuner does nothing, and a reboot is required to fix.

Anyway, just wanted to clarify what I'm seeing here...

Unclear. What I think happened is that the cablecard rebooted, which it seems to do daily, which caused one of those 3 second audio gaps in the programming. But I haven't been able to nail it down; it never goes entirely black when I'm sitting there watching TV, because I never watch livetv.

I know this poll is about as unscientific as it gets, but 33%? That's a lot o customers.

How many are not even noticing this problem yet? It is hard sometimes with dual tuners to notice one isn't working. Until you miss a season pass like I did with Heroes last night... dern update!

+1. That was me. I don't record a whole lot on the digital channels yet because I don't actually have an HDTV yet. However, checking with the liveTV function I noticed one tuner wasn't actually tuning anything digital. Then I went through all the recordings for the last couple days to make sure nothing was blanked out (it wasn't.)
