My DRT 800 series 2 does not recognize or support several rental disks I have inserted as of late. It gives a message that "an invalid or unsupported disk is inserted". Before this started I had several rental disks freeze up & skip a lot. I cleaned & cleaned my player as well as the disks just to try to make it to the end of a movie.
I called Humax support today & a rep. told me I needed to kick start my recorder-however per the directions she gave me I can't get out of the re-starting phase. I never get the green screen she spoke of. She told me to unplug for 30 seconds & then plug back in & watch the two LEDs on the front & to push pause when one of them goes out & push 57 when it turns off & the over one comes on. It doesn't work...can u help me?? Do I need a new recorder?? I am at wit's end..
thanks for any support you can give me.

You need a new DVD drive, you can find what to purchase on these forms somewhere.

Which rental discs failed to play. There have been some reports of recent Sony DVDs that will not play in the TiVo DVD players. Casino Royale is one. When you try to play the disc, the player locks up and won't play. This is due to a defect in the mastering process of the DVDs. You have to reboot the TiVo to get it to work again, but you have to eject the DVD first, so the TiVo doesn't get locked up.

Have you had any problems burning discs? Or just with playing certain rental DVDs?

I have just had problems in playing rental dvds. I haven't had problems in burning DVDs because I really don't do that much. Even though I have had it for almost 3 years-I work so much that I basically at current just use it to record programs I can not watch due to not being here when it is on & then to watch rental DVDs.

The person who posted to my thread before you said I needed a new DVD Drive. Wonder why he thinks that? Not that I am questioning him-because I have no clue.

However, I do know that I can't do a kick start because it just goes right back to the start. I wonder what is up with that.

    thanks,

    Lessd,
what makes you believe I need a new DVD drive? I am not saying you are wrong because I don't know. I just wanted to know what made you think I did??? I hope that doesn't sound like I am being a smartelic because I don't mean to be.

Try to record a show onto a blank dvd. Report back.

Which rental movies gave you problems? What were the problems? wouldn't play, locked up the TiVo, skipping during playback, etc.?
