I was actually going to start The Americans a few weeks ago and decided to wait so I didn't confuse myself. I am not sure I have ever seen him in anything before although I did recognize his name when PM was announced. I agree about it becoming a top notch show. Only 2 episodes left. :(

I'm trying to think if I've ever seen him in a role with his native accent...I don't think so.

I never got around to The Americans, but I remember him from Brothers & Sisters.

Apparently, watch the last ever Columbo.

I don't know if I've ever seen an interview with him speaking in his natural accent before. It's weird after so many years of The Americans and now Perry Mason.

Here's good article on the history of Girard (the town in the map in the closing credits, which Matthew Dodson's father talked about in an earlier episode), which is a real place, now known as Woodland Hills:

How a visionary scoundrel created Woodland Hills in the 1920s

Just caught the latest episode; what a hidden gem this show is! Keeps raising the bar week after week.

I totally agree. I like how we see him making basic courtroom mistakes (much different than the polished lawyer he becomes in the TV series). I think we are also starting to see how the Church plays into the whole story line which was vague early on.

You should. I know everyone's tastes are different, but, to me, The Americans was one of the best shows of the 2010s, maybe THE best. I know it never got the accolades of shows like Breaking Bad or Mad Men, but I think the quality is as good and the story just as interesting. I will admit to being a sucker for a great spy story so it fits in my wheelhouse.

I had the first 2 seasons recorded but dumped them when I needed room on my TiVo. I probably should’ve dumped something else.

That's funny because i had a similar experience with him going from Brothers & Sisters to The Americans. I *loved* him in B&S, but it took me a while to buy him as a Russian spy. He killed it in that show. Aside from his disguises anyway.

I think The Americans is streaming on Amazon Prime, if by chance you have that. If not, maybe it's worth paying $9 for a month of Prime Video to binge it.

They're both great! Brothers & Sisters is a "adult family drama" in the classic sense, group of brothers and sisters who are now in their mid to late 30s. I really liked it and was sad to see it go, it ran for 5 seasons on ABC.

Brothers & Sisters (2006 TV series) - Wikipedia

The Americans is very different indeed, it's set during the cold war and focuses on a family, the parents of whom are Russian spies, as they continue to do spy things while keeping up the guise as every day Americans.

The Americans is very, very good.

I know they had to show Perry making rookie mistakes in his first trial but I'm relieved that the entire episode wasn't anything but flub after flub. Now let's see how he puts all the various pieces of evidence he and his team have been collecting to win the case. That is, if he does win the case.

Paul Drake better watch his back.

I noticed in the credits that the original Perry Mason author's first name is spelled "Erle". I've never sen that spelling before. I assumed it was "Earl".

Looks like he's set to Perry Mason the hell out of the Church in those final courtroom scenes! :D

I hope he makes up with Shea Whigham next week. Mason treated him like an *******, and Shea was right to walk off. But he's a good character, and I'd like to see him back.

Need to go look up his character name...

Same! This was maybe the fastest hour of the show yet. Too bad it's a short season. I wish shows would stop this. I was always sad enough getting only 12 or 13 but it seems the new thing is making them 8.

Was everyone (show everyone, not audience everyone) supposed to really believe that was Charlie at the end? How did she think that plan would work? Just give the mom a baby that isn't hers and proclaim a miracle? No wonder sister Alice took off running. Also empty casket was the mother's doing or some other mystery yet to unfold?
