This episode wasn't actually too bad. Maybe watching Masters of Science Fiction has given me a new appreciation of PKJ. :D

I don't generally like Groundhog Day plot lines, but they did a decent job of not having it get too repetitive. And there were some good twists. It really is a leap of faith to kill an old woman and hope that Jane was right that the guy would reset the day.

Dear god, this show is still on? I thought Sci Fi shows only ran 10-12 episodes long per season. Hasn't this been on for months?

Yup, it's still on. I just checked, and apparently it got 22 episodes for this season and the last one is scheduled to air on 9/21. I have not idea if it has or will get renewed though. Too bad they didn't give Dresden Files this kind of run.

    It's already gotten canceled, unfortunately.

(Google "painkiller jane canceled" for lots of articles)

I liked this episode quite a lot. It was much better than last week's clip show (was that just last week?). I'm not to surprised its been cancelled. It was mediocre at best, and awful at worst. It won't really be missed. I have to agree with some here who have said that Dresdin was better, and it was cancelled. The channel needs to invest in something that will be better done, with better acting, and broader appeal--I know, how about wrestling?

    Nevermind...

So they finally muster up a decent ep and it gets canceled. That's ironic (and not in a Alanis Morrisette kind of way :p ) I remembered thinking while watching it "Hey! they might be turning the corner on the series with this one!" Oh well...

But why order up 22 episodes in the first place? That's two seasons worth of episodes for most TV series and for BBC shows, it amounts to 3 seasons!

What are you talking about? Most TV series have 22 episodes per season.

Perhaps he meant most cable series..?

There've been uneven episodes of the series, but in general they've been relatively good. The neuro powers have gotten a bit out of hand in many episodes, including this one, but ignoring that aspect, the writing hasn't been terrible and the acting has been more than acceptable... something that cannot be said at all of Flash Gordon... unless you enjoy lying through your teeth. :)

Yes, I was thinking cable. I don't generally watch network TV so I'm unaware of how many eps now comprise a season. Shows like Dexter, Extras, Entourage, etc. don't make it past 12 eps.

22 eps. seems like a lot.

Just FYI... Entourage had 14 episodes in season 2, 20 episodes in season 3, but will have only 12 for this current season.

I didn't realize that. I don't have an SP for it so was counting from memory. I guess I should have referenced Weeds instead.

But to get back on point, considering how weak Painkiller Jane has been, it's surprising that they have 22 in the can. You would've thought they would air something like 4, tape 6-8 more during that time and see where it was going. Shows like Surface and Threshold didn't tape that many and they had an equal amount of special effects to consider, if not more.

Who knows why that happened... but I'd guess the costs weren't that high and the after-broadcast value of having a full season to syndicate or sell on DVD makes it worthwhile. It probably also wasn't doing that bad in the ratings, just maybe not as well as they hoped.

Or maybe someone got smart and refused to film any episodes without a full season commitment. I'd like to see more of that happen. :)
