Morogan, I had the same setup as you, but eventually gave up using the cards. Every couple of days I would lose auth on 1 of them. Have you experienced this with the 8.1 update? Also, I think NGHD 224 is a newly added channel - I'm not sure if it's turned on yet. Are you getting Versus/Golf HD 254 (another recent addition)?

Actually, I don't get National Geographic HD either, even though Comcast's web site lists it as part of my channel lineup. The cause seems to be different, or least the behavior is - first, the problem doesn't only affect the TiVo. I also don't get it on my Comcast set-top box. Second, when I tune the channel on the TiVo, I get a message saying "channel not available," which isn't the case for G4. Do you see the same thing?

Unfortunately I've been too busy lately to pursue it, so I don't really have any new info. However, I think you're right, at least for G4 this seems to be exactly like Hookbill's problem. You've probably read all this in this thread and Hookbill's, but: I think the main thing to tell a tech would be that the PCR PID and Video PID do not match, which indicates a problem at the headend. The fact that Comcast's set-top boxes can get the channel (which they can) does not mean there's no problem - they seem to determine the PIDs in some different way that is more tolerant of this problem. By comparing with my set-top box, I can see that it's the Video PID that's incorrect.

If you talk to the tech about this, I'd be very interested to hear how it goes.

Espo: So far I have not had either card drop on me (after I removed G4 to prevent it from attempting to record anything on that channel). I haven't tried the Golf HD channel yet.

Brainiac: I'll mention the mismatched PCR/Video PIDs to the tech. I'll be curious if he shows any interest. He was really griping about CCs when he was by last week - and so was the guy at the NOC (which I could hear on speakerphone).

Well, my tech never showed yesterday (I am assuming to the dusting of snow we got), but of course Comcast CS is telling me that he was there. "Ma'am, I was home all day and there was SNOW on the ground, so don't you think I'd see SOME evidence that he was there even if he didn't knock on my door?" Unless my tech was a cat, he wasn't there, because the only prints in the snow were from a cold kitty.

I'm going to have to get another appointment set up because my Signal-to-Noise Ratio is dropping below the minimum to keep the QAM signal locked and I'm getting audio/video problems as a result. I've got graphs and reams of logged data to wave at them in evidence. If I think about it, I'll post the graph when I get home from work. It's interesting to see my S/N vary with the temperature (and in a way that it shouldn't unless there is a problem with my line).

Oh, and Espo - still no problem with dropped channels or my CCs hanging. Preventing the box from looking at G4 chan seems to prevent any of that from happening until hopefully they get that fixed.

Good to know to know for the future. I tried this & it didn't fix it. Along with many others in this area, not sure why. Hopefully 8.1 helped. By any chance do you see the previously mentioned audio/video breakup on SD digital channels? I use to get them frequently on channels like VH1 & Discovery. I would trade the loss of G4 for a fix for this & working cards. It would also be nice if they ever decide to finally carry the DC HD locals!

I'm in the Chicago area, and I'm having the same problem -- no audio or visual for one channel -- but with SoapNet rather than G4. Comcast tech support has been working on it a few weeks now. Still nothing. :(

Are you up in Evanston? I have the same issue with Soapnet and they mentioned another S3 owner in Evanston had the same issue. I am in Downers Grove.

I was getting G4 fine until I had a modem problem on my old Sony Series 1, and my schedule ran down to 2 days before I got a replacement external modem. When it loaded the new shecule it said my lineup had changed and made me reset it. Now I get everything except G4 (channel 96 here in Arlington VA, Comcast), that channel is blank with no sound.

I still get it on channel 96 on my other TV with a Comcast descrambler box. But the channel isn't scrambled, just blank, like what you all were having. I don't understand why it would suddenly change though. I want my X-Play!!!

Has any one with Howard County Comcast had success using CC's in their S3? Has 8.3 improved any of the above problems with the S.A. cards? Any Motorola M-cards issued?

I hadn't messed with this much for a while, but I just checked the channel that started the thread, G4. I now receive it!

However, some time back I lost TNT HD (channel 249 in my lineup). I'd be interested to hear whether other Howard County, MD people are receiving that channel...

As for the CableCARD problems (specifically having the cards fail and no longer display any encrypted channels until you reboot), I think they're much less frequent with 8.3, but at least for me they still happen occasionally.

That's good to hear. I myself decided to ditch the cards & go strictly OTA for the summer, at least until I hear they have resolved some of these issues. Unfortunately, FIOS has been delayed on my street indefinitely. I've installed cards in friends FIOS S3s & they are free of these problems. Also, since switching to OTA, I've never experienced any of the audio/video dropouts I got with digital cable. Although, I've re-watched programs recorded with the cards & will say 8.3 has made the dropouts less noticeable but still in the same spots. Perhaps after the big July 1st deadline, Comcast will start issuing only multi-stream cards. As far as I've seen, these have all been made by Motorola.

So has anyone in Howard, MD been issued a multi-stream cable card by Comcast yet?

I don't receive TNTHD ch 249, it's blank. Haven't had time to call and compalin and deal with comcast. Thinking about looking into FIOS, since I can now get connected.

I just moved (still within Howard County), and I don't get TNTHD on either of the TiVos in my new place either - so I'm guessing no one in Howard County gets it on their S3.

Unfortunately I can't get FIOS where I am, or I'd be looking into it too...

These problems we've had using S.A. cards in the S3 sound just like the new problems people are having using S.A. cards in the new TivoHD. So this leads to my original question: has anyone with Howard Comcast gotten their S3 or HD to work successfully with Scientific Atlanta cablecards? Did Tivo ever solve the original issue with the S3 (I'm using mine w/o them)?

I just got FiOS just over a week ago and it is working great. Verizon does provide Motorola cards and the two provided worked perfectly. I have yet to see any issues some people report with FiOS.

I never did try to run Comcast through my S3. I'm still using my OTA despite getting the locals through Verizon. I hope you guys stuck with Comcast now get FiOS in your area soon because it is far better.
