    Hello.

Does anyone know what the future plans of TIVO are in NZ/Australia ?

I think i saw something in an email, but can't find it. Nothing official on any forums.

are there plans for a new company to take over the 'contract' (or whatever it is called ?). I think theres 1 or 2 more years until the contract ends with the Australian company.

I *DO* like the new service with Tivo and (NZ) quickflix. i can watch movies on my main TV instead of IPAD. However it seems redundant, if the aussie company is running TIVO to extinction.

    Perth,...
There have been lots of promises about development. But really all that has happened in quite some time is the addition of Quickflix, and as you have seen even that is not quite right.

Hybrid (owned by Channel 7 and TVNZ) bought the licence for TiVo AU/NZ to stop outside organisations from bringing TiVo to Australia which would allow commercial skipping and very quick fast forwarding. Hybrid crippled the TiVo and this was a recipe for disaster when so many other players were in the market at lower price points.

While no new boxes are being sold, it does appear that TiVo is running itself into extinction here in AU/NZ.

The good news is, that at least while people are purchasing quickflix, there is some income stream to pay the ongoing costs of providing the epg and servers.

Luckily the most common part to die is the Hard drive and that is relatively easy to swap out. The rest is relatively reliable. I have used the original TiVo (series 1) in Australia for around 10 years, and even they still work ok.
