Since Nov 21st, I have been experiencing an odd transfer issue. Whenever I try to transfer a recording made on STZHD (and ONLY STZHD) from my TivoHD to my PC, the transferred recording is truncated - the end of the recording is missing. ALL other recordings from ALL other channels transfer normally and completely. I have tried using TivoDesktop, pyTivo and kmttg. All with the same results. I have tried this on two different computers (both Windows 7) - same result. Prior to Nov 21, I had no issues whatever with STZHD. There have been no changes to either of my computers during the time in question. In all cases, the STZHD recordings on the TivoHD are there in their entirety and play back fine.

    Specifics:

    1. ALL my PC hard drives are NTFS - so the 4GB limitation should not be an issue. I have transferred some recordings of over 22GB in size during this same time period without any problems (these were recordings made on channels OTHER than STZHD).

    2. Tivo Desktop - completes the transfer as if the entire recording has been transferred. When the file is played back - the end is missing (about 5 minutes worth - several hundred MB).

    3. pyTivo - transfers about 4GB and then starts over. This looping goes on and on.

    4. kmttg - transfers about 4GB and then spits out errors and starts over. After the default number of restarts (?3?) it "gives up". I am attaching the kmttg error log (Recording name is blanked out).

Any suggestions or ideas are certainly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

EDIT - I was unable to get the kmttg log to attach to this post, so I am adding a shortened version here:

i need to have 5 posts before iI can content that includes "links". Since I can't get the kmttg log to attach to my original post, I have to include it at the bottom of the post. However, it contains "links" (albeit just directory links) - so here goes 4 more posts...

Even though the Tivo will say the video is ie: 5gb in size, you would only transfer approx. 4.6gb and its a complete file. But that is besides the point.

Did you even play the video to the point where it stops transferring? Any glitches would stop the transfers. Sometimes the Tivo would stop recording the last few minutes of a recording and a reboot would fix that.

So, as a lame workaround, the newest kmttg supports transfer from paused point.. You MIGHT be able to save the existing 4 gig transfer.. then pause on the Tivo a bit before that.. do another transfer from pause point.. and merge the two files together.

ThAbtO - Yes, I "even" played the video to the point where it stops transferring. Did you "even" read my post? "In all cases, the STZHD recordings on the TivoHD are there in their entirety and play back fine." And, yes, I have rebooted the Tivo (several times). Same results.

mattack - Good suggestion - I have tried this, but unfortunately, it does not work. kmttg still loops back to beginning of file and restarts the transfer. I have figured out an even lamer workaround and am in the process of testing it. I set the tivo to record show "X" and then set it to record show "Y", which directly follows show "X", and add 10 minutes to the beginning of the recording time to show "Y". I am hoping I can catch the end of show "X" on the "Y" recording, edit out that ending and add it to the "X" recording. Seriously lame, but this is a seriously bizarre situation.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

CLARIFICATION - One thing I forgot to include in my original post -

It probably seems that there is an issue involving the "4GB" limitation. Although kmttg and pyTivo seem to only transfer about 4GB of any STZHD recording, Tivo Desktop will transfer all but the last few hundred MB. In other words, it the original recording on the Tivo is 10 GB, Tivo Desktop will transfer more than 9 GB, but less than the full file, whil pyTivo and kmttg seem unable to transfer more than 4 GB. Don't know if that makes the problem any easier to resolve. Thanks again.

Oh, interesting, so it sounds like you're saying that EVEN THE OFFICIAL TIVO application isn't working? Then, I think you should report this to Tivo.. Which won't help the problem, but may be useful for the future.

Per request, I recorded and transferred a movie from STARZHD (You Again) and the entire program transferred via kmttg. It's about 9.4G.

Tivo video file sizes are managed differently then on a PC. For example, I record the Amazing Race and the file sizes are mostly approximately 7-7.5 gb but when I transfer them, they are 6-6.9 gb in length on the PC. They are full downloads and complete, I don't even get errors during transfers. I use Kmttg for the downloads.

Thank you all for your help on this issue. I am glad that STZHD will transfer without problems (lrhorer). The glitch I am experiencing may be related to my ISP or my Tivo, but not my PC (same exact result when transferring to a different PC). The fact that STZHD and only STZHD fails to transfer fully is very peculiar. I guess I will keep trying to figure this out. Again - thanks for the help and the responses. svenn

I'm starting to suspect stealth DRM.
