Transferring a 700Mb file (show) with Tivo Desktop would take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes. The same transfer with PyTivo Desktop takes less than one minute. The transfer is exactly like transferring a file over a high speed network from one computer to another (which, when all is said and done, is exactly what is happening). Interestingly, with TiVo Desktop that 700Mb file might end up as a 2Gb or larger file on Tivo after the transfer, while with PyTivo it is essentially the same size as the original (or perhaps very slightly larger).

I did notice that fast forwards / rewinds aren't as smooth as with an original recording or a Tivo Desktop transfer and may actually skip a little, but that's a trade-off with which I can certainly put up. Wish I'd been aware of this app before now!!!

Silly monkeys do not survive? What's SM? :)

EDIT: I just spoke with a Haji at Tivo and he said they have a software rollout at the end of April that may fix it. He first wanted me to upgrade to Hydra and I told him that there was no way I was doing that.

SM should be SkipMonkeys. SkipMode. It and other abbreviations are explained in a post I link to in my signature. I seem to find new stuff frequently so it gets an update more frequently than my TiVo. Not that it's hard to beat that.

    Hydra update is way overdue.

    SM = SkipMode.
Yes, customer support often says that they're working on a fix "that may fix it."

Not sure why he suggested Hydra. Hydra doesn't support ANY computer to tivo transfers.

Problem solved. If you're running Tivo Desktop, just replace the two files Certificate.pem and Private.pem in "C:\Program Files (x86)\TiVo\Desktop\" with the files attached. Restart your Tivo Desktop. Profit.

Thanks for the fix :). For now though, I think I'll stick with PyTivo. The transfer speed is ridiculous.

No problem! I had slow transfer speeds with the old Series 2 machines, but the Roamios etc. are fast. Couple of minutes for a 3gb file. But I'm glad to know there are options in case the Desktop ever fails long term. And more than that, I'm glad I don't have to start researching multimedia boxes to replace my Tivo because I can't transfer files back and forth, haha!

Perhaps, now, you can sell the fix to TiVo. ;)

Thanks for figuring it out and for the fix--you're the dude. :)

But if I'm having the problem with "NOW SHOWING ON..." doesn't show up on my Tivo anymore, will PyTivo work for copying programs *to* my Tivo?

Edit: I had to reboot the computer; now it's fixed. Thanks!

Thanks! Is there a reason why I have 2 items under My Shows now?
    Now Playing on <pc name>
    And
    <pc name> (login name)

Both work the same when I select them.

    No big deal, just curious...

Ok, second one is gone now

I saw @TiVoSupport acting stupid on Twitter about TD not working. I sent them a tweet to look here.

Moving forward, may I urge everyone reading this thread not to mention pyTivo Desktop to Tivo Support? Thanks.

I just replaced the files mentioned here and like magic, TiVo Desktop works as before and I have already uploaded something from my computer to the TiVo Bolt. THANK YOU for this solution.

That's giving TiVo's support way too much credit. But sure.
