If there is another thread with this info, please point me to it. I imagine I'm not the first with this question but when I searched I couldn't find the answer...

So the new seasons are all starting and from time to time I'm encountering a situation where the TivoMath is saying I won't have enough free disk space to record a show. This is likely due to the # of shows I have set to keep until I delete. I most often will watch+delete these shows within a couple days of their airing but sometimes I will get caught up with work and need a bit longer to get to them, so rather than having to remember to go in and change their keep-to-date, I just set my most critical programs to keep till I delete, then delete them right after watching.

Now, my question is this: If I try to record a show today which airs in a week, and Tivo says it won't have enough space... but between now and the airing, I free up space, will Tivo recognize that, go back and enable the recording it previously said it could not?

Note: I know I can upgrade the hdd size, looking for an interim solution till I have the avail cash to buy a large drive.

You can pick up a 500GB drive for under $100.

Sad to say is I haven't been able to find a work around to that solution either.
One thing that WILL help. Is to disable the Wish list & Automatic recording of TiVo Suggestions.

One other suggestion is instead of having the show "Save until I delete" have it save for 7 days instead. Since you said you watch the show usually in 3 or 4 days. Marking it for 7 days should give you enough time to watch the show, yet tell the TiVo it can delete it to make room & therefore goahead and schedule the next show.

One other note. if you have a show set up for season pass, & it hasn't scheduled next weeks showing. It will record on the regular night, if at the time the show starts there is enough room for it. But only if it is setup as a season pass

Yes, I do that all the time. Just try to keep enough disk space open for the next 2-3 days of scheduled recordings. But if you are that low on disk space and schedule a movie to record a week from now, your chances of missing a season pass recording go up. As long as you manage your disk space daily and delete recordings to make room for the next couple days, you shouldn't have a problem.
