Still no HDCP handshake, no playback, no sound. UI is now very laggy, though.
My current PRE beta state had, in addition to no hdmi audio, the quarter screen momentary flicker when transitioning from Guide to Menu, and back.
I've taken an 8 sec video to capture the back and forth flicker in case TiVo needs it.
I did find the flicker is ELIMINATED when video is selected as
a) 480p only,
b) 720p and/or 1080i (480p checked off)
Again, this is with winter update, the beta update will come in later.
The HDMI audio is back after last night software update. Everything is normal. My video selection is still self selected [720p, 1080i] per my last post. Dare I check 480p?
EDIT: Key information
I dared. When I selected 480p and 480p with 480i for video, I noticed significant blank screen lags between main screen and Guide. The Guide looked as 480p resolution (Hint!). Once I removed 480 res, everything was crisp and lags were gone.
After beta fix, still lost HDMI audio after a few hours, when Dolby Audio was selected. Went back to PCM settings, Audio is back. Vizio 80" TV, 1080p.
I have been using the optical audio out from my TiVo Premiere XL into my Denon Audio Video Receiver AVR-2807 for 5.1ch Dolby Digital surround sound for several years now. Since the last TiVo update I can no longer get any sound from my TiVo into the AVR over this optical audio link (the link is still active as red light is coming from the end of the fiber going into the AVR). I tried switching from Dolby to PCM in the TiVo Settings menu of the TiVo but still get no sound.
An HDMI connection from the TiVo into my Panasonic TC-P50G10 HDTV does provide stereo sound for the TV.
Is there a firmware fix available for the optical audio channel?
Not sure if your issue is the same as the others, but Margret indicated they were testing a fix and to e-mail your TSN to her.

Not sure what changed but this morning without making any modifications in the physical connection between my TiVo Premiere to Denon AVR I am once again getting 5.1ch Dolby Digital over the Optical Audio Port. The TiVo was updated last night after I had reported the issue here, no idea if this is what got things working again.
My two Romios have always had HDMI issues. TiVo says nothing is wrong but I never had HDMI errors with my TiVo HD units. Randomly the Romios will give me "HDMI Connection Not Permitted" error. I mostly work around this by watching one TiVo through the other as it’s when switching them on the Onkyo TX-NR5010 that the error shows up. Anyway…
Now that TiVo added new Skip and QuickMode (which I love) I randomly have no audio when I turn everything on the first time. One time I had to reboot the TiVo to get audio back but all other times I’ve been able to fast forward or rewind and or stop and start a show a few times and audio will come back.
This morning I got a message regarding at "Fall 2015 Update". I thought it was an old message since it is now almost February -- then I remembered that this was the update that caused the issue. I plugged in my TiVo with the HDMI cable and I finally got sound.
My Roamio just recently started loosing sound. Required reboot. Then, while watching Netflix, the Roamio decided it was a good time to install the Fall 2015 update, FOR A SECOND TIME! Not sure why. Very annoying. Need a fix to these issues ASAP.
