No providers / channels in given zip code, first-time Guided Setup

    Maybe a little of both.

    Started trying with a cablecard, which works when I do 'test channels'. Bolt+ ethernet cable directly plugged into my Fios Actiontec router. Zip code listed no providers. Tried neighboring zip codes, 00000 and others I found in searching this forum. Tivo support had me reboot multiple times and jump though hoops and still no help. Also, tried this without cable card for OTA as well and still have issues. I also get occasional 'connection interrupted' N11 messages during setup.

    Just picked up a used Tivo Premiere to use for OTA and am having the same zip code issue during guided setup.

    Well, problem solved.

    Bolt+ received an update yesterday that fixed the Zip Code issue.

    Received my "Store Return, no returns" Bolt from eBay seller today.

    Having the SAME problem. No providers listed for ANY zipcode or 00000. Same thing with OTA.... said NO CHANNELS.

    Did the Reboot, Yellow light, Pause for 2 seconds, "7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0" routine..... the green/yellow alternating started before I made it through the number sequence.
    Rebooting now... And it is downloading a VERY large (or multiple) updates.

    STILL saying "No Providers for Zip Code" :(

    Tried pulling the power at the screen announcing "No Providers for your Zip Code".
    That didn't work either.

    Trying the Reboot, Yellow light, Pause for 2 seconds, "7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0" routine again.

    Pretty sure the above routine is a dumb the NVRAM, reset to factory, and start again, because it is downloading a LARGE update again.
    Second time through, an error occurred at the last step (Verifying). And then it did the same thing again..... but it still had my ZipCode in the machine, so I assume the download was aborted and the reset didn't finish.

    Decided to go ahead and process an activation order with TiVo so I can create some urgency for them to help me get this thing working.
    TiVo accepted the TSN and took my money, so I am expecting them to help me make this work.

    OK..... while I was reading here another thread on no providers for zipcode during guided setup, and AFTER I submitted my activation order for the box, but BEFORE the box showed up active.... While the box was just sitting IDLE at the start of the guided setup screen, it spontaneously rebooted and took down ANOTHER large update.

    I'm beginning to believe this 28 July 2016 made box got caught up in the data switchover from one database to another, and was simply trying to bang against an empty (or non-existent) old database.

    Because AFTER it finished the update from this spontaneous reboot, the guide setup is PROPERLY populated with the precise locoal cable providers for my zipcode and those surrounding me.

    Yea! One step closer to a fully functional backup Bolt!!

    The KEY appears to be persistence.... I don't think the activation request had anything to do with it.... I just think the repeated reboots and multiple resets finally got the attention of the TiVo servers to send down a new enough version of the software.

    Now, to finish up and make sure it's all Kosher, and then RESET from the menu and try the Guided setup again for OTA.

    Have to ask TiVo tomorrow IF I can have one box on cable and another box on OTA and still be able to copy BOTH recordings and OnePasses from machine to machine.
    Logic would dictate that with the backup machine set to OTA, you could copy over the recordings, but likely NOT the OnePasses.

    Here's something I wasn't expecting....

    THIS eBay special Bolt I bought as my BACKUP machine does NOT have Hydra.... It is a deHYDRAted machine.... or perhaps more appropriately a PRE-HYDRAted machine!!!

    ...Annnnnnnnnnnddddd it's updating to Hydra. :(

    I would agree based on similar posts that when connected they need to be updated to a late enough version to get past this issue.

    Shhhh.... Yes, but most folks don't have the persistence to stick with it long enough for a new enough update to come through. I've bought two very cheap Bolts for this reason thusfar. ;)

    OK..... I have, I believe, conclusively confirmed what has to be done to resurrect a Bolt that is exhibiting the "empty provider database" or "No providers... Zip Code" problem.

    I have now resurrected TWO Bolts that I bought for "parts only" because if this problem.
    BOTH were produced on the same day: 28 July 2016
    BOTH had software versions that I believe predate the database switchover post Rovi purchase of TiVO.

    The second machine I could NOT finish guided setup on had the following software:

    Software Version: 20.6.1.5.RC7-USC-11-849

    This APPEARS to be the version this unit had on the date of manufacture. Because it sat on the shelf past the database switch over, it looks for a non-existent (or empty) provider database.

    IF you upgrade the software to v20.7.4.RC18, it WILL see the NEW provider database and FINISH the guided setup.

    But here's the rub.... On one of these machines, you can try every kickstart code in the book (at least all of the ones I know and a few that aren't published), and the machine will NEVER successfully call home to TiVO AND receive v20.7.4.RC18. In fact, I checked the software version after every single kickstart code run I tried, and the software version remained unchanged.

    THE ONLY way I was able to get the new software, was to ACTIVATE the TSN with TiVO. Within minutes, the machines spontaneously reboot and install the latest software version. In this case, thes machines are PRE-Hydra, so they get 20.7.4.RC18.

    Note: In guided setup, except during connection, Press: Thumbs Up --> Thumbs Down --> Pause --> Play and the machine will break out of Guided Setup and Display the SOftware Version AND TiVO Serial Number.

    When asked to choose a country, hit the Info button to see the current software version. The serial number is found on the box. But if I ever need to bust out of GS, now I know how. :)

    Cool! Didn't know that option. Will add it to the tool kit. I used the other one because it works anytime.... like right after you do the "connect to TiVO" thing so you can see if it had any effect.

    Yeah, the serial number is on the box, but you don't have to get up and get it while you're on the phone either.... AND it allows you to verify that the motherboard is still in the SAME CHASSIS it is supposed to be in. :)

    I just learned that. It was interesting that my BF Roamio OTA came with 20.6.3 before it upgraded to Hydra during its first GS. The 20.6.3 software was the initial Rovi conversion release. Below that you got problems.

    Same problem here

    I got it working by doing guided setup as Canada with zip 00000.

    Once it updated did guided setup again for my actual zip

    I was persistently insane( defined by trying the same thing over and expecting different results) and just kept repeating the guided setup. On the 6th attempt, it worked. TiVo must have some code that allows passage if you prove to be more stubborn than it.

    I bought a used Roamio from a thrift store with Lifetime Service. I brought it home and repeated Guided Setup (was configured for cable but I'm using antenna). I got the cannot find channels for the zip code you selected (or something to that affect). I was a little freaked out because I was stuck in Guided Setup (I did connect to TiVo service Before running Guided Setup). I read several posts about the problem, most were: TiVo CS was NO help. Finally I read one post that said unplug your TiVo for 30 seconds, when it reboots you'll receive a "TiVo is Updating may take over an hour" message. It took like 5 minutes max. Guided Setup restarted by itself and completed normally... No Errors. Up and running just fine.

    The last time I ran Guided Setup was on my TiVo HD. OMG! My Roamio was 100 time faster. Searching for antenna channels took 2 maybe 3 minutes. My HD took at least 20 or more.

    That first time's a royal PITA. They really need to fix that. IMHO, they're too busy coming up with new features to keep basics straight, and when they give new, they may take away old. My ongoing pet peeve on the newer GUI - no ability from the TIVO to copy a recording from another TIVO. Just plain disappeared with no explanation, lots of lies from CS reps who kind of sort of speak enough english to read scripts - and who make up answers when they don't know the real answer.
