Nope. It is always good to read about a product ahead of time to see its limitations. You need guide data to utilize the Tivo to its full extent. I suppose if you pay the subscription you could manually record everything. Cable box? That is a thing that translates your cable signal so that you can receive it. This has nothing to do with Tivo. The Tivo is hooked up to the cable box.

Does your cell service have an option for you to create a wifi hotspot with your phone?

If one could use MJ, that would presume one has broadband which can be used for the TiVo more directly than through MJ or other VOIP service.

But no, you cannot use MJ for a modem connection, at least easily.

    Potato and pen.
Without the ability to contact the mother ship, the OP's TiVo wouldn't work even if they paid for a million subs.

For about a few weeks after my house fire the apartment didn't have the phones or DSL set up. I tethered my Wondows Mobile smartphone to my laptop, set up ICS, and kept the TiVos going that way.

It was crude but it worked.

Do you have internet service in the same house as the TiVo?

If so, how do you get it? What equipment is involved? (cable modem? router?)

Does Charter Cable provide analog channels where you are?

(is where you are the NC coast or thereabouts?)

If you have Internet service, even if it's your neighbors, all you have to do is get a wireless adapter for your Tivo and use his wireless connection.

    Problem solved.

Did you mean Linksys brand router?

Is the router in your house or your neighbor's?

Do you own it, or does he?

    Does the router do wireless?

If the Tivo and the router are in the same room, you can run ethernet cable from the router to the back of an S2 DT (TCD649080 or TCD649180).

If the router is not in the same room but is nearby, and does wireless, you can use the TiVo AG0100 wireless adapter that'll plug into a USB port on the back of the TiVo.

You should be able to pick up a used one for around $25.

Google "site:craigslist.org tivo" and see if you can't find someone who'll mail it and take PayPal.

I'd lend you my spare one but I'm fixing to use it in an experiment.

Of course you'll need to pay Tivo the monthly subscription fee.
