hey guys, my tivo S3 has stopped outputting digital sound through HDMI, I tried running a seperate optical cable and got nothing there either. I'm not getting any sound at all... nothing on recorded shows, live shows, or even menu sound effects. The only way I can get sound is through the red/white composite cables. Video works fine.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Have you tried rebooting the box?

Where is the HDMI or optical cable going? Directly to your receiver or to your TV? Can you try the other device to see if you get sound that way? Do you have a DVD player with optical or HDMI output and if so, have you tested that to see that it still works?

I've tried rebooting it, and unplugging it for awhile too.

The cables go to the reciever but I've tried running HDMI straight to the tv too.

My yamaha RX-V2600 reciever bit the dust a month or so ago, I just got its replacement today and hooked everything up to find no sound coming from the Tivo.

Bad cable? If you can, try a different HDMI cable just to check.

ok, I just tried swapping the HDMI cable and still got nothin.

I'm begining to wonder if maybe the old reciever did something to the tivo when it went bad. According to the repair shop, the Processor and motherboard were bad in the reciever.

Are you sure you have all the digital inputs assigned correctly in the new receiver's setup menu?

yep, I've checked and rechecked that about a dozen times today... even tried running the cables straight to the tv bypassing the reciever and still got no sound.

Anyone else ever see this? Any tricks to get sound back?

I have pretty much the same issue, though haven't tried composite yet.

    Series 3
    HDMI connection directly to TV

    Sound worked Saturday
    Sound didn't work Sunday

No issues with the TV's sound.

    HDMI Cable is fine.

I have a Cisco Tuning Adapter for what it's worth (sound is missing from both live TV and recorded shows, though, and even missing the TiVo beeps in the menus).

The only variable that I can think of is that the power went off 2x yesterday for a few minutes each time.

    John's...
Have you tried changing the TV source briefly and changing it back? That works for me when HDMI sound goes away.

I have tried that. I knew that trick (and also the Dolby digital trick).

I even switched HDMI inputs on the TV just to confirm it wasn't the TV.

TV audio from other sources is just fine, btw.
