I searched around and didn't find my answer so I thought I would ask it here.

Does anyone get the NHL Center Ice Package with Cox Cable on a S3 Tivo? I installed my S3 half way through last season and was told that I could not get the NHL package on it because of the cable cards. I'm waiting to see what happens this year when the signal is sent to my other cable box to open the package. I'm wondering if it will activate on the S3 also.

I also saw that people are not getting the listings on the S3. Is that because of the cable card? I get the game listings on my S3. Record all the games with just a wish list entry. Never miss one.

    Thanks for any help.

I've asked the same question regarding my cable company - Patriot Media in Central NJ. I can see the NHL Center Ice logo and hear the music when I tune to the channels, but since we haven't had a game yet, I don't know if I'll be able to watch through my TiVo. I suspect that once I've enabled it via the phone call that all of my equipment will be authorized, but I'm not holding my breath.

My understanding is that you will need to order via the phone/internet, that you will see 2 hour blocks for Center Ice on the appropriate channels but that you likely will not see specific game info (so you'll have to tune/record based on some other data source to get the right games). I was able to watch a couple of the preseason games on the CI channels on my TivoHD so I have all the confidence it will work properly when the season starts.

The only concerns I have at this point are SDV which if it's enabled in your area, the PPV channels are likely the first to go.

This brings back the memory of two years ago when I purchased the Sony DHG box to tide me over until the S3 came out. I got it in November 2005 and Center Ice was running a freebie (following the lockout/strike). I was in hog heaven -- I could get any NHL game that they were offering on my 95.xx channels.....I was like a pig at a trough. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get Center Ice since with my S3 (and I returned the DHG in January of 2006 after several box failures).

I am jonesing for some hockey, that saturday start threw me for a loop, and not being able to watch was really really lame. Now the days off make me more anxious to watch, but I am really doubting the value of attempting to buy Center Ice. If they have one game per night in HD i will, but the usual feeds look like something from the 70s without the nostalgia...

There was in fact a game last Saturday. It was a free preview at 12:00 Noon ET (from London). It showed up fine on my TiVo. (I have Comcast in NE.) The next free preview is Wednesday, 10/03/07 and goes until 10/09/07.
http://www.indemand.com/sports/nhl/index.jsp?spi=tv So, if it shows up, it is pretty certain you can order it regardless of what the CSR's tell you.

That's always been the case at the beginning of the season. Indemand does not have a schedule up yet, so you have to follow the schedule at http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?service=page&page=Schedule Once http://www.indemand.com/sports/nhl/schedule/schedule.jsp shows the schedule, TiVo guide data gets the updates the next day or so. To record the free preview Saturday, I had to do a manual recording.

I'm watching CI via my TivoHD (COX Phoenix) right now. Toronto v. Ottawa. Everything looks good, the game info even displays in the guide so it seems there was an update yesterday since it previously did not show this info.

I noticed that the guide information showed up without the indemand schedule, so I guess I was wrong, it does not rely the indemand schedule.

Now, if they would only offer an HD version of Center Ice!

I'm watching on my S3 right now - boy was I glad to see. The guide information was also accurate, so going forward I ought to be able to set up recordings a few days in advance.

It's amazing how the cable companies misrepresent their product. I imagine that it's just a case of CSR roulette, but when I ordered CI I was told very firmly that I would not be able to watch this or any other PPV event on my cable card devices. I feel like calling them up to tell them they were wrong, but I don't want them to "fix" things so that I can't watch. :)

I checked last night, opening night, and did not have any feeds on the games being played. I did have the correct guide information for the channels. I guess I will have to give Cox a call and see if I can get anywhere. It sounds like it is more than possible. The CI package is not a two way option like PPV it just has to be turned on. I have had CI for a few years now so it automatically renews without a problem on the older digital cable box. I just want it on my S3 also.

I have always had to call in each season to order it. It has never been automatic on any cable or sat system I've belonged to. (That being TW, AT&T, Comcast, DirecTV.) Actually, I don't remember if DirectTV was an automatic renewal or not.

Just an update. I actually get the channels now, they started a couple days after the season started. The only thing I did notice was that I did not get one game, Flyers vs Edmonton. Not sure why, got it on the digital cable box. Will see if tonights Flyers game is on or not. A little strange. I'm still waiting to see if the channels stay on after the free preview.

For some reason I am not getting CI as of this afternoon. I rebooted but still nothing. I get all the games on my STB. Please let me know if you all are getting CI ok. I'm located in Phoenix.

No Flyers game last night. Not sure if the other games were on but I couldn't even get the channel with the schedule on it.

    Is the free preview over?

Yes it is. Ended on the 9th.

Below is my exchange with Cox CSR thus far...

    Question
I am not receiving the Center Ice hockey sports package on all TVs though I have subscribed for it. The last 4 digits of my SSN is XXXX. Thank you

    Answer
    Dear Brian:

    Thank you for your response.

Our records show that you currently have two CableCARD'S on your account.

Currently, the CableCARD device is only capable of one-way communications. Cox can send a signal to the card once it is inserted in the television. However, we are not able to receive signals back from the device.

This means that customers who use this device will be unable to access such advanced features as our Interactive Program Guide, Pay-Per-View ordering, and future services such as Entertainment on Demand (EOD).

Please be advised that on your digital cable receiver, the NHL Package will air on channels 671-680. Please refer to your Cox Digital Cable Interactive Program Guide for upcoming air dates. You may also find game schedules and other information about this package at the following Web site:

    http://www.indemand.com/sports/nhl/index.jsp

Thank you again for contacting us via e-mail. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Heather

    Question
Thx Heather. My question is not about ordering, the guide though or EOD. I simply would like for you to authorize my cablecards to receive the Center Ice package. I have several friends that this is working fine for.

    Answer
    Dear Brian:

Thank you for your recent online inquiry to Cox Communications. We
apologize for the delay in our response.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this matter may be causing you.
At this time, we have notified our Programming Department of your issue.
Once they reply to our message, we will send you a follow-up e-mail.
This may take between 24 and 48 hours.

We appreciate your patience in this matter. Please reply to this
message if we can be of further assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Kyle
    E-Care Specialist

So hopefully this "Programming Department" will be able to simply turn on CI for my CCs. I really am not looking forward to a lengthy debate with Cox. I will report back.

So I got an email back today:

    What a JOKE!

So I called customer service and at least the guy on the phone told me the above was misinformation and said he attempted to authorize my CC for the package. It doesn't appear to have worked (at least not yet, I'm @ the office but my wife said the channels are still grey) but he also mentioned that "multi-stream cable cards are now on the market" so at least he has his information right even though it has yet to resolve my issue. I will try to call back later today and get a supervisor.

Is anyone else with Cox getting the Center Ice package or any other sports package? Is this something Tivo Support will assist me with if I 3-way them with the cable co?

Well it's Cox Cable 1 and me nothing. The war continues....

I also sent an email this afternoon detailing my problem. I didn't get a response back by evening so I just called also. Got a service rep on the phone who actually, after a while, said "I wasn't even supposed to work tonight." Not very promising that he tried at all to correct the problem.

Well after being on hold three times for 10 minutes each he came back each time and gave me a different excuse. His last one was that Cable Cards are not addressable so the package cannot be sent to them. I advised him that they were addressable enough to turn the free preview on and off. He said that I should not have been able to see the preview at first then changed it to the Center Ice channel turns it on and off. Making it sound like Cox didn't have anything do do with it.

This rep also said that maybe you guys out there don't know what you are talking about and that you don't really have cable cards in your Tivos. I was thinking about trying to call the Center Ice order number and see if they could help me.
