NFL Sunday Ticket fail: "This program not recorded... no longer in guide"

After spending an hour on the phone with DirectTV, figuring out the auto-record wishlist search thing... and checking my todo list I thought I was golden.

Sunday September 18, coming home to no shows recorded, I was blessed with this beautiful message on my new found ToDo List History:

"This program will not be recorded because it is no longer in the program guide"

    For every game.

And in fact, I was able to use the guide and the "enter" button to look backward to 10AM PST to find: No NFL games AT ALL in the guide. And no games listed other than MNF, and none for the following weekend.

So somehow between when I checked the todo list and later, the guide basically a*$ raped me.

The DirecTV rep told me that NFL can sometimes black out games on the NFL channels as long as they are showing on a local channel. While I find that hard to swallow given I paid close to $300 to watch them without commercials... let's for the sake of argument accept that's true. Would all games disappear? Doubt it.

Rather than crossing my fingers and hoping that they don't f' up again... I would like to see if I can prevent the guide from updating once the todo list looks good. I currently have my THR22 hooked up via ethernet.

If I unplug the ethernet cable, will that prevent updates ? Or will it simply download them via the satellite 'connection' ?

    Any comments welcome.

The guide comes in over the satellite. You can't stop guide updates.

I see that Sunday Ticket provides "every live out-of-market game". Games that are in your market can be blocked. But that every game is shown as unavailable is not normal and you should call back about this.

I also see "Yes, all NFL SUNDAY TICKET games that were blacked out on Sunday will be available on NFL SUNDAY TICKET Short Cuts, including games that were broadcast on your local FOX and CBS stations. NFL SUNDAY TICKET Short Cuts are commercial-free replays showing every play from a game in 30 minutes or less. NFL SUNDAY TICKET Short Cuts requires a subscription to NFL SUNDAY TICKET."

    Hi Steve,
Thanks again for the extremely useful information.

I thought that these were "rebroadcast" the first few days of the week. As it turns out, "they were". No longer.

The shortcuts are available on the web, and on mobile devices- not the TiVO. No wonder they didn't want to tell me about it- they have been getting a ton of flack online.

Still really hard to believe they wouldn't tell me.

I will have to hire someone to be at the house sunday to fix this ridiculous problem with the programming. Ugh.

Out of curiousity, what is tivo downloading via internet? It claims it is using the ethernet to download something, once a day.
