With COVID delays, it could be they were coming up on the drop-dead date for the contracts...

Contracts with the actors were expiring and needed to be picked up now before they got to the end of the season. This was due to the show originally was supposed to air in the summer but was delayed until now. So originally they would have been able to air more episodes before they had to make a decision but with the delay in it's airing they had to make a decision now.

Exactly, I haven't started it yet, I would give it a try if I knew it were to not end on a cliffhanger, but as far AFIK that is unknown, Probably just hold onto it until I get tired of it taking up space.

Yes they had a resolution to what happened this season. It didn't end with a cliffhanger, but they did set things up for a possible next season which we now know isn't coming.

Yeah, it was all nicely wrapped up. Alas, the story felt less and less compelling as time went on, with I think the 5th episode or so being a complete snooze.

It could've been much better, but I thought it was becoming a bit trite in the end with a not-very-good twist. Perhaps if they went from 10 episodes down to 8 (make it a miniseries) or even 4, it would've tightened things up and not be so draggy.
