I have a number of TiVo's but just purchased an HD unit which the cable guy is coming tomorrow with 2 cable cards (Charter Comm). Reading all the issues with the cable cards I am not sure I will commit to the TiVo HD. I haven't activated yet.
Do I need to activate to test out the cards/installation?

No, you have 7 days. You won't have access to all the broadband features until you activate, but can get the CableCARDs set up.

Even after you activate it you should have a 30-day trial. Unless I read the info. wrong.
